CUSP for Safe Surgery (SUSP) Registration Fast Facts

Are we speaking the same language?

We’ve been using the same word—registration—for three different registration types.

Let’s start by making a few key distinctions:

1.

SUSP portal registration

While you can access many resources on the SUSP portal without even registering,

Portal registration gives teams access to their project data.

 Portal registration gives hospital teams immediate access to the Hospital Survey on

Patient Safety (HSOPS) “app” so they can measure their perioperative safety culture.

 It’s also the first step they complete to access their SSI data reports.

2.

Surgical site infection (SSI) data registry registration

 SSI data registry registration gives Coordinating Entities (CEs) and hospital teams access to hospital SSI data reports.

 You’ll be able to see how your hospital is doing on a monthly basis and compare your SSI rates to your own historical performance.

3.

Social network registration

 Social network registration gives CEs and hospital teams access to the SUSP social networking site. Ask questions, collaborate, and share resources here to take advantage of the wisdom of national teams.

“So I have to register three times?”

We recognize that these registration steps may be a low priority for hospital teams.

We’ve worked out some processes to make registration in the portal, SSI data registry, and social network as easy as possible. Often, you just need to send us a form or an email.

Take a look at the table on the next page. It’s a tool to help you understand the steps of each registration process, and your role in each step.

We’re here to help!

If you have any questions after reviewing the material below, contact the SUSP helpdesk at susp@jhmi.edu

and your National Project Team (NPT) coach! We’ll get you over any registration hurdles (no matter what type of registration it is).
