FACULTY OF BUSINESS AND SOCIETY The Faculty of Business and Society, one of four Faculties at the University of Glamorgan, brings together a broad range of academic disciplines with an extensive portfolio of university courses in business, law, psychology and humanities. School of Psychology The School of Psychology has 22 staff in the specialist area of Psychology. The School currently offers five undergraduate degrees accredited by the British Psychological Society as well as two further highly successful undergraduate programmes; BSc (Hons) Early Years Development and Education and BSc (Hons) Childhood and Youth. The latter degree is accreditated by the Behaviour Analysis Certification Board. The School also offers four taught postgraduate programmes; MSc Health Psychology (accredited by the British Psychological Society for Stage 1 training), MSc Health Psychology: Theory and Practice (HPC approved); MSc Play Therapy (accredited by the British Association of Play Therapists) and MSc in Play and Therapeutic Play. In terms of research, the School made its first submission to the Research Assessment Exercise in December 2008, entering over 70% of its staff and achieving a profile of "national excellence". Particular areas of research strength are lifespan development and health and sport psychology and these are supported by dedicated teaching and research space and specialist equipment. This includes dedicated computing and observation facilities, specialist software such as Biopac and CANTAB and facilities for conducting specialist research projects using eyetracking and psychophysiology equipment. The School also has a new dedicated in-house clinic facility offering Psychological services to the public. The School of Psychology staff offices are located in Ferndale with the specialist laboratories and clinic being located in Dyffryn building. The Dean’s Office and the professional staff who form the Registry and Business and Finance strands are located in Hirwaun Building with the academic staff from the Glamorgan Business School. Staff in the School of Law, Accounting and Finance are in the historic Ty Crawshay building which dates back to the early 1800s and is the former home of the School of Mines. Ty Crawshay houses the Moot Court and state-of-the-art professional Law facilities and will house the new trading room. Most academic staff from Humanities and Social Sciences are located in Ferndale building apart from the staff offices and facilities associated with the Visual Arts provision which are located in Kidwelly, Dyffryn and Brecon Building. JOB DESCRIPTION Responsible to: Head of School Main purposes of job: To contribute to the delivery of an effective teaching and scholarly experience for the University’s students, and to help further its ambitions in research and knowledge transfer To teach core and optional modules contributing to the awards in Psychology To undertake research in Psychology To contribute to course management and associated professional duties Principal responsibilities & duties: 1. To undertake module leadership as appropriate to level of experience in role (new starters maybe exempt from this element until more experienced) and develop own teaching materials, methods and approaches with guidance where necessary 2. Attainment of the qualification is a mandatory element of probationary service for lecturing staff, although exemptions can apply where new staff already possess a similar qualification, and/or where HE teaching experience exceeds 4 years (full time equivalent). An appropriate time allowance will be granted for study purposes. SALARY This post is graded Grade F and the range of this grade is £31,798 - £36,862 per annum. Common practice is to appoint people to the minimum of the grade. DURATION This is a permanent appointment which will commence at the earliest from 1 May 2012. TERMINATION The appointments are terminable on either side upon three calendar months notice from the University and three calendar months from the individual (other than in exceptional circumstances).
