Come And Have Fun! Join The Rotary Club of Oadby’s 1st Annual Swimarathon Supporting local charities in our community & raising funds towards our international project at Parklands Leisure Centre 28th February 2016 On 28th February 2016, the Rotary Club of Oadby’s very first Swimarathon is to be held at the new 6-lane 25m pool at Parklands Leisure Centre in Oadby, Leicester. This will become our major fund-raising event for local and Leicestershire charities as well as supporting our international projects. In time it will hopefully build up to become a 3-day event. It will also be tremendous fun! It’s a community event! Between 12.00 midday and 6.00pm, 36 teams are invited to enter our Swimarathon. Teams can be entered by schools, clubs, scouting and guiding groups, local firms, supermarkets etc. Each team is co-ordinated by its chosen team leader. There is no age restriction. However, any team of swimmers under 14 years of age must have an adult in charge (not necessarily in the water!). Individual team members should obtain as much sponsorship as they can from family and friends. There will be music playing! The Swimarathon is not a race or a distance endurance test. Each team of up to 6 swimmers will have the sole use of one lane for a specified 55 minutes. Team members swim in relay for as few or as many lengths as they wish during their allotted time of approximately 10 minutes each. The lengths are counted and announced every 15 minutes. Teams are encouraged to bring supporters to loudly cheer them on in their efforts and rack up the excitement. I did say it was not a race!! It will be noisy! Each swimmer will receive a certificate with their team photo as well as a rare and highly prized Rotary Swimarathon T-shirt. Be able to say you were at our very first Rotary Club of Oadby Swimarathon! The first of many! It WILL be a major annual event for our community. It will be a fantastic occasion! Sponsors Our Swimarathon gives local businesses the opportunity to thank the community by supporting the wonderful efforts of all of our swimmers and their contributors. Sponsors are vital to cover the costs of the hire of the pool, stationery, printing and advertising and equipment used during the Swimarathon. Over the previous year Rotarians from the Rotary Club of Oadby and other helpers organise the event and give their time free of charge. And when the swimarathon is over, we will start planning our swimarathon for 2017! We have 4 levels of sponsorship: Bronze £100: The name of the sponsor will be displayed at the entrance to the Swimarathon with those of all the other sponsors. Silver £250: The sponsor will have their company name announced over the Swimarathon’s public address system during the first quarter of every 55 minute team slot. The sponsor will also be entitled to display a banner (2m x 1m approx) throughout the event. Gold £500:’Lane and Pool Sponsors’ Sponsors will have two radio-style adverts during every team slot. In addition the sponsor will have their name / logo over one of the pool lanes or around the venue, and on all posters and the Rotary Club of Oadby’s Swimarathon website. A pool side banner (2m x 1m approx) may be displayed throughout the event. All 216 swimmers will receive a Swimarathon Certificate which will also carry the company name / logo. Event T-Shirt Sponsor The Rotary Swimarathon T-Shirt will be highly prized by the participants. The sponsor’s name / logo will feature on the T-Shirt. The sponsor may also display a banner throughout the event. And the main purpose… There will be a presentation in the summer of 2016, when grant cheques will be presented to the charities and worthy causes in the community and Leicestershire. Sponsors will be invited to join us at this presentation event. It will be a wonderful occasion. The following charities will be awarded grants totalling 60% of the net proceeds: Loros, Warning Zone, Rainbows, Menphys, East Midlands Immediate Care Scheme, The Laura Centre, Leicester Children’s Holiday Centre, The Air Ambulance Service, Women’s Aid Leicestershire , Birkett House School. The remainder will fund out international project and the Rotary Club of Oadby Charitable Trust. Our 2015-16 International Charity is Rotary Jaipur Limb. In many parts of the world, to have a missing or useless limb will result in the humiliation of invisibility, the stigma of deformity, dependence upon others and loss of dignity. The Rotary Jaipur Limb offers a permanent solution for amputees, polio victims and those born with a serious limb malformation. It provides independence, mobility and normality. Being able to stand upright restores dignity and self-confidence. It transforms the lives of both young and old. The Rotary Club of Oadby is raising £18,000 to fund a Jaipur Limb Camp in India. This takes the treatment to the patients to avoid many miles of travel to a permanent centre. Jaipur trained technicians travel to the camp with materials and equipment to make and fit artificial limbs or calipers. Local Rotary Clubs in India will manage the camp which lasts for about 2 weeks, providing food and shelter for each patient and an accompanying adult. On average 600 amputees and polio victims are treated in the camp. This means that each limb costs just £30 ! Nobody is ever turned away. This Swimarathon will be the major fund-raising event for our Jaipur Limb Camp project. Your support is vital in this exciting venture.
