Fall 2015 District Learning Day Presentation Slides Rubric – Part I This document will be used for each slideshow presentation for Fall DLD in order to provide quality feedback to Content Leads. Save the completed document to the Dropbox with the title of the presentation_feedback: Literacy in the Math Class_feedback. What are we looking for? We are looking for Managers and Directors to provide feedback related to content and the design principles of effective PD. We are looking for the final round of feedback to focus on the design principles of effective PD. Content Leads will review feedback within this document and apply feedback as needed to the slideshow presentation. DIFFERENTIATED: Professional development must be tailored to individual and collective teacher needs and differentiated by need, content, and grade band. PRACTICE-BASED: Educators learn best when they have the opportunity to apply what they have learned, so our professional development consistently involves opportunities for practice. - Tied to Destination 2025 and the key pillars of the district’s strategic plan - Directly aligned to the district’s vision of effective teaching (captured in the TEM or elsewhere), academic priorities (such as literacy, writing, and early childhood education) - Based on teacher needs (performance, experience, and areas of growth), as well as by their content area and gradelevel. - Identification of teacher and student performance data, both qualitative and quantitative, used to define context for the professional development session - Involves practice within session so that teachers can immediately implement what they have learned in a session - Identifies how will educators commit to practicing newly learned skills in their classrooms - Identifies what the follow-up activities will be - Identifies who will help participants enact and refine what they have learned in their classrooms Manager: The PPT is aligned to Destination 2025 Priority 2: Improve PostSecondary Readiness which starts at the elementary level with College and Career awareness and exploration. Also, TEM Counseling Standards are captured in the PPT relating to student’s development in academic and career areas. Recommendation: Re-insert DLD Slide Template for Objectives Director: DLD Review team: Manager: PPT includes differentiation by grade level content. ACT Benchmark Data is included. Recommendation: ACT Data Slide, input 2012 ACT CCR Report for heading Suggestion: Facilitator states: In states where all eleventh graders take the ACT college readiness assessment (TN is one): Director: DLD Review team: Manager: The PPT includes opportunities for participant discussion and practice. The participants are provided take-aways that can be used in their School Counseling Program. The presenter will send follow-up communications with resource links to the participants. Recommendation: My Road Trip Slides—Focus only on 3 grade level and remove excess slides. Recommendation: Consider going to actual sight to ensure participants can see car items clearly. Recommendation: During Airtight Activity focus on 1 to 2 Items from Road Trip Car and ask participants to brainstorm how they can put into practice. Example: 1st grade-Goal Setting-PSC can create goal setting activity sheet & parent letter to encourage task. Director: EMPOWERING: Teachers and principals must be able to choose and participate in supports that are most aligned to improvement of their practice. MEASUREABLE: Professional development’s impact must be measured and evaluated strategically. Alignment to PPT template guidelines - Identifies why the presentation is needed for teachers and their students - Teachers should reflect on their own instructional strengths and opportunities for improvement, then describe if the professional development experience will improve their students’ achievement. Opportunities for participants to reflect on their school’s current college and career readiness program are provided. Director: DLD Review team: - Identify the change we expect to see in teacher and student performance as a result of professional development experiences (KUDOS) Manager: Participants should have a clear understanding of what college and career readiness looks like in elementary school. The presenter includes an activity that will allow participants to think, pair, and share. - Identifies how presenter will track engagement track engagement in PD Director: - Strong written communication skills - Font size not less than 28 - Includes all components of PPT template Manager: Content is clear and font size appropriate. Recommendation: Consider simplifying content on slides reporting research or best practices. Utilize bullets to emphasize research and presenter can discuss in detail.
