Introduction
Chapter 1: The Start of the Adventure
It was yet another -10 C degree day, and still
snowing. It is almost impossible to see three feet ahead
of you. “The trees will shade me from most snow because
of the upside down cone shape of the Evergreen trees,
and the fact that they do not lose their needles because
of the length of the cold winter.” thought Lily. She
wanders through the snow looking for something that
was once hers. As she walks, her feet sink into the snow,
and in some parts of the forest surrounding her she slides
on the ice and falls. Still, she continues walking forward;
she will never give up looking for the other half of the gift
that is hers.

Chapter 1
The Start of the Adventure
Lily wakes up to the roaring of the wind, as snow
slashes across her face as it blows. The sting of the
blowing snow blurs her vision to the point she can barely
make out where she is, and what might happen to be
around her. She can make out a lonely snowshoe rabbit.
She reached in her cargo backpack, the only belonging
she has with her. She pulls out the letter and reads it
again for the third time.
Lily,
Now you are 16 and I can tell
you what I have been waiting to tell you
your entire life. When you were left on
my doorstep as a baby, there was also a
note. It said how you have a gift, a very
rare gift, and since your mother has
died, you are the only one left in the
world with it. You have the ability to
communicate with animals. You can
know what they are feeling and
thinking, but you can also speak to them.
I know your locket is very important to
you, because of it being the only thing
you were left with as a baby. There is also
another story to that locket. S you
noticed before, it is missing a piece, and
to gain the rest of your gift, and to be
able to carry it on, you must find the
missing piece. Your birth mother hid the
piece to protect your gift, and not throw
it away. You must also protect it and
keep it in your hands, and never let it
fall into the hands of Zonza. If he gains
this gift, with his other power, he has the
ability to do many things. Now you must
go, to a forest, and find the missing
piece, but I must warn you, you are not
the only person looking for this beloved
piece of locket. If Zonza finds this piece
before you, your entire gift will be taken
away and it will be his. This must not
happen.
“I always knew there was something different about me.
I never expected to have this big of a weight put on my
shoulders on only my 16th birthday. I thought getting my
license would be big, but boy was I wrong! I can only
wonder what this so called Zonza wants of me and my
gift; you think he would have better things to do with his
evil power.” thought Lily.
Then she heard a lonely shy voice. “Hello up there?
Hello?! Can you hear me?” says the voice. Lily looked
down wondering what could be talking to her, and then
she remembered of her gift.
“Hello, who is this?” says lily.
The rabbit replies, “I’m Marti, the snowshoe rabbit there
when you woke up.”
“Why hello there Marti, I’m Lily, even though I’m sure
you know who I am.” She says.
“Yes of course I know who you are; almost every animal
in this forest knows who you are. Ill name just some of
them so you won’t be totally clueless when you meet
them, like you were when you met me. Carson is a
brown bear, and there is also a reindeer named Otis.
Next there is a moose named Ellie and a red fox named
Juliana, they are best friends and have been forever.
Lastly, there are birds, many of them, because of the
millions of instinct found in this forest. Too me, the birds
are quite annoying and nosy, but I’ll tell you about some
anyway. There are two golden eagles, Rhonda and
James, and their friends Marge and Donny, are Siberian
Spruce grouse. Lastly there are two newbies, one named
Jone a Black- billed cappercaillie, and Malone a stubborn
one a Siberian accentor. The birds seem to overhear
everything said in the forest, so that’s I found out about
you.” Marti says to lily.
“Thanks for telling me, it’s a lot easier than going around
and talking to each one individually. If I need to know
something, I’ll make sure to go to the birds.” Lily replied
to the rabbit. Then all of a sudden she heard a loud
voice, “I see you Lily and I will find and capture you, then
your adored piece of locket.” Lily is scared just at the
thought of this. The Zonza terrifies her more than
everything ever has before. More than any poisonous
spider, snake, or bug. “I can’t even imagine how upset
my mother will be at me if I do not find the piece of the
locket before Zonza. Wait, he won’t, I am going to get it
first.” Lily thinks to herself.
“That’s what you have to do Lily think positively.” A
brown bear sits beside her says.
“I knew I could know what animals are thinking, but I did
not know animals would know what I’m thinking also.”
Lily says to the brown bear when she remembers Marti
telling her about Carson.
Carson replies, “You won’t find anything with that
negative attitude of yours, make sure you keep your
attitude positive and you will prosper.”
Lily thanks him, “Thanks for the advice Carson, I really
appreciate it.”
Lily kept on walking just knowing she had to be at the
most only one week away from the piece of the locket,
since she had been traveling for 6 months, 1 week sounds
like no time at all. She looked on the ground and saw the
ice; it has been becoming thinner lately because of the
temperature increasing. It is now mid-July, so it’s the
warmest it will be the whole year. It’s rained once the
whole time I was here. “I can’t wait to get back to the US
for some warm weather again. Living in the Arctic Circle
isn’t really my thing.” Lily had thought to herself.
Lily was too busy thinking so she missed the bright
orange and red flames coming right towards her. She
started running to her left away from the fire. Crash!!!!
Boom!! Trees were falling all around her, she had to
escape. “This had to be the Zonza’s doing.” Lily yelled.
She continued running away from the fire which was
catching up to her. She kept running in the same
direction until she spotted Zonza. Only ten feet away and
she was running right towards him.
Chapter 2
Trouble
Meanwhile….
“I see that girl, but I know she can’t see me. Mau
hahahaha!!” A muffled voice mutters in the bushes to
the left of the fire.
“I must make my move fast before she spots me.” The
Zonza plans in his head. “How will I do it?” The Zonza
questions himself. “Wait! I never question myself?! I will
find a way even if it means killing Lily so I can get the
locket!” “Yes! That’s what I will do if plan A does not
work out. “Ahh there she is, she still has not spotted me,
and she keeps looking back at the fire.” Zonza
accidentally says out loud. All of a sudden, Crash Boom!!!
Trees start falling around Zonza also! “I must not become
trapped, I must make lily trapped!” The Zonza shouted.
The Zonza turned around facing right towards lily, right
when she was ten feet away.
“AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!”
Lily shouts as loud as she possibly can!
“I got you lily! Now I can take that locket with me so I will
have ten times the power when I find that missing piece.”
The Zonza says to Lily.
“No you won’t because you have to get it first!” states
lily.
“That’s pretty easy; I’ve already got you trapped right?”
the Zonza questions Lily. Thud! A tall tree falls to the
ground, leaving Zonza trapped on the ground with no one
to else to help him up. Lily stands up, grabs her stuff, and
sprints as fast as she can. She heads towards the coal
mine about a mile away that she is pretty sure the Zonza
has not yet found. Lily saw it on her way in because she
made a point to remember spots where she could hide in
case of an emergency. She travels for a half an hour and
finally makes it to her destination. Along the way she
found some edible seeds such as mealberry, dogrose, any
peony at the base of a Siberian fir. She hides in an empty
room at the back of the establishment where hopefully
no one will ever find her. She sits there as quietly as she
possibly can for two hours. Then she starts to think.
“Where could the piece of the locket be? There has to be
a hint somewhere.” Lily looked through her cargo
backpack to try and find something to occupy herself
with and for the seeds so she could finally have
something to eat, and she found the letter, the letter that
got her into all this. She pulled it out, looking at the
paper; she started to notice something she did not see
before. She spots a picture on the back of the letter. She
looks closer, what could it be? “Yes!” Lily shouts as loud
as she can, maybe a little too loud. It’s a map!! “Finally,
the clue I was looking for! This is it, just what I need.” Lily
thought to herself.
Knock, Knock! “Oh no! It better not be Zonza.” Lily scared
herself right out of her own mind.
“Hello in there” said the low voice.
“Go away!” shouted lily.
“I heard a scream and I wanted to make sure everything
is alright.” The boy said to her.
“Come in.” lily said to the boy cautiously.
“Hi, my name is Eli; I work around here and watch the
coal mine to make sure they don’t make too much
damage to the land. You never know what kind of
damage can happen if no one keeps watch. I heard a
scream and I just wanted to make sure no one was hurt. I
moved here about a year ago from the US. The Yakut
people found me wandering around here and offered me
a job.” The boy replied.
“Who are the Yakut people?” Lily questioned.
“Well from what they tell me about them, have lived here
for a very long time. They care much about their land
which is why they hired me to watch the coal mine.
During the day they have other jobs to do. They breed
horses and cattle. During the day the women watch the
cattle when the men watch the horses.” said Eli.
“Oh, interesting. My name is Lily; I am kind of hiding
from someone so when I heard you at the door it scared
me.” Lily nicely replied to Eli.
“I’m sorry I didn’t mean to scare you, who exactly are you
hiding from?” Eli questioned.
“Well it’s a long story and I’m not sure you will
understand.” she replied.
“Well, it’s the end of the day, so I have time.” said Eli.
“Okay ill start at the beginning and make it short. When I
was born, my birth mother left me on the doorstep of a
woman, and she left me with a locket with a missing
piece and a letter. The letter told me I have a gift.” Lily
answers.
“Wow, interesting.” Eli replies.
“So basically the letter tells me I have to find the missing
piece of the locket to gain the full power of the gift. Also,
I am not the only one looking for the other piece of the
locket, and if I don’t find it first, the person who finds it
will have five times the power he has now, and that can’t
happen.” Says lily
“Wow, you are very interesting Lily, do you think I could
help you find the locket? I have plenty of time.” Says Eli.
“Okay I guess I have to let you since I just told you
everything about me.” Says lily.
“Hey I’m not that bad, am I? It will be fun.” Eli says
joyfully.
“We should continue walking, I just found a map on the
back of the letter, so we can try and follow that.” says
Lily.
Chapter 3
Lost
“This map is really hard to read.” Eli says.
“What do you mean it’s hard to read it’s a map?” Lily says
“Here let me see you read it.” Replies Eli.
“Okay I will let me see it. It says to go this way.” Lily says.
They started walking to the right. They continued
walking for a while, and then Eli took another glimpse at
the map.
“Oh yeah Sure it does!” lily replies sarcastically.
“Um, actually it does.” Eli says.
“Okay maybe the map is hard to read. Let’s take a rest
and try to figure this thing out. Plus, my feet are getting
tired.
“Okay sounds good to me.” Eli replies. They sit next to
each other at the trunk of a Siberian spruce. They both
stare at the map trying to figure out what It means while
snacking on some seeds. They both look up at the same
time.
“You know you have the prettiest eyes.” Eli says to Lily.
“Yeah I have been told that before. Let’s get back to
figuring out that map.” Lily replies.
They both look down again. Then Eli leans over and
kisses Lily.
“Hey! What are you guys doing?” says a voice.
“Hello there?” Lily replies.
“I thought you were supposed to be looking for that
locket lily. Not looking for a boyfriend.” says the voice. A
wolf walks closer to Lily and Eli.
“Yes, that’s what we are doing; looking for the locket,
right Eli?” Lily questions.
“Yes, she is right.” Eli replies.
“Oh yeah sure.” The voice says. As the voice walks closer
lily and Eli realize it is a wolf.
“Wait a minute, a wolf just talked to us?” Very confused
Eli questioned.
“I guess I never told you specifically what my gift was.”
Lily says.
“No I don’t believe so.” Eli replies nervously.
Lily replies, “I can talk to animals. It is a gift I was born
with and the gift where I must find the missing piece of
the locket so I can gain the full powers of my gift.”
“Wow, I just kissed a girl who can talk to animals. That’s
a first.” Eli replies excitedly.
“Okay enough with that, what is your name?” lily asked
the wolf.
The wolf replies, “My name is Adalyn. I am new that is
why Marti did not tell you about me.”
“Hi nice to meet you Adalyn.” Eli and Lily reply at the
same time.
“I would like to help you look for the locket if that is
alright. Even though I am new I know these woods pretty
well and I can help you find your way around. I overheard
you two talking about a map.” Adalyn says.
“Well I guess so.” Lily replies.
“We could definitely use the help.” Eli adds.
“Well lets continue walking because we are not going to
get anywhere sitting next to a tree.” Adalyn says.
“Okay I guess you are right.” Lily says. The three
continued walking whispering quietly so the Zonza would
not hear them.
“Should I tell them about the Zonza?” Lily wonders. “No,
I will wait until they find out. I do not want to scare them
off.
“RAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWRRRRRRRR!”
shouts the Zonza.
“Oh no!” Lily shouts.
“What was that?” says Eli and Adalyn.
“Umm well when I was talking to you, I might have
forgotten to mention a little detail.” Says lily.
“And what might that be?” shouts Eli angrily.
“Remember when I told you I was not the only one
looking for the locket, well that rawr was the other
person who is looking for the missing piece.” states lily.
“And he also wants to find me to get the rest of the
locket that I already have. So basically he is looking for all
three of us.” Says lily nervously.
“Who again is he?” says Adalyn.
“Zonza” lily says. “Bad old Zonza.”
“Give me the locket.” Eli states. “The Zonza does not
know who I am yet, and will not expect me to have the
locket. That way it will be harder for him to get it. Also,
when he tries to get the locket from you, it gives me and
Adalyn time to find the missing piece.” Eli argues.
“Okay, I guess that could work.” Lily replies nervously.
Lily hands over the locket reluctantly.
Eli replies, “It’s okay, you can trust me.”
“I guess I have to.” Lily replies to him. All three of them
continue walking forward, following the map to try and
find the missing piece.
Meanwhile………
“I have found her and her little pretty boy too.” Zonza
thought. Zonza continued to plan how he was going to
capture Lily so he could get that locket so when he did
find that missing piece. He watched lily and her friend
walk in the woods, he noticed the paper Eli held in his
hands.
“I wonder if that is a map.” Zonza thought. “Well if it is I
will get it when I capture her. It will be soon.” Zonza
whispered to himself.
knew of would have wanted to do this to her.
“Good thing I gave the locket to Eli.” Lily thought.
Chapter 4
Splitting up
The trio knew they had to be close to finding the
missing piece.
“Are we ever going to find it?” Adalyn questioned.
“Don’t give up yet!” the other two replied.
“Well we have been searching for a week and haven’t
even seen a clue that we are close.” Adalyn replies.
“We will find one soon, don’t worry.” Replies lily. Lily
looked up to the sky noticing that it is getting very dark.
It started raining, something it never does where the trio
is located. With the trees and some moss, it is getting
hard for the trio to see each other. They continue walking
anyway. Lily hears rustling behind them, but Eli and
Adalyn dismiss the thought and continue walking.
Lily can no longer see anything; she wakes up in a
square box, crystal clear so she can still see through it.
She stands up, pushing on it, trying to escape, but she is
unsuccessful. “How could I be so careless.” Lily thought
to herself. “I should’ve been more careful when I heard
rustling in the bushes behind me.” Lily again thought. Lily
knew this had to me Zonza’s doing. No one else she
Meanwhile……….
“Where is Lily?!” Eli shouted.
“She was here just 5 minutes ago!” Adalyn said to Eli.
“We have to go find her! I bet Zonza trapped her while he
went to find the missing piece of the locket!” Eli says.
“Okay I agree. We must find her.” Replies Adalyn. Eli and
Adalyn continue to search for Lily.
They trace their steps to where they last saw lily, and
look for clues to where she might be. When they arrived
at the spot where they last saw lily they saw and heard
lurking in the bushes. They stopped and observed the
area around them. They looked for the Zonza, but they
had no luck.
“Eli, I am going to see what was in those bushes.” Adalyn
says to Eli.
“Okay, tell me what you find.” He replies. Adalyn walks
closer to the bush cautiously, making sure she is not
harmed. She arrives at the bush and looks down.
“uh oh!” Adalyn states.
“What?” replies Eli.
“Lily’s Cargo Pack.”
Chapter 5
Finally, and Forever?
Lily looks down and notices she no longer has
possession of her cargo backpack, which means the Zonza
has possession of the map.
“This can’t be good.” Lily thought to herself.
“Hopefully Eli and I are not the only ones who cannot
read that map.” Lily hoped.
Lily looked up and saw two birds in the tree. “Those birds
look like golden eagles, they must be Rhonda and James.”
Lily exclaimed.
“…… the birds know everything……” Lily remembered a
Statement that Marti had told her when she was
introducing all the animals. “Maybe I can tell them to
show Adalyn where I am!” Lily thought excitedly.
“Hello! Hello up there!” Lily shouted to the birds resting
on the Siberian Stone pine next to the box she was
trapped in.
“Hello! Can you hear me?” Lily shouted again.
“Yes!” exclaimed the birds annoyed, we can hear you.
“Could you do me a favor?” asked Lily.
“What might that favor be?” Rhonda questioned.
“Could you go and find Adalyn and tell, and show her
where I am?” lily asked again.
“That might be difficult. Adalyn doesn’t really like us very
much.” Says James.
“Why might that be?” Lily wondered.
“Rhonda and I might have told many of the animal’s bad
things about her.” Says James.
“Please still try.” Lily asked of them.
“Okay we will try, but we cannot guarantee success.”
Says Rhonda.
“Thanks!” Replies Lily.
Meanwhile….
“Look its Rhonda and James flying towards us, what
featherheads.” Exclaims Adalyn.
“Just be nice Adalyn.” Orders Eli.
“Hello there Rhonda and James, I am Eli.” Says Eli.
“Yeah we know who you are, we are here to talk to
Adalyn.” Says Rhonda.
“Why would you want to talk to me after you told all the
animals untrue rumors about me.” Adalyn Replies.
“We did not want to come, but Lily convinced.” Replied
James.
“Wait, you saw Lily?” Eli asked.
“Yes, she asked us to show you to her so hopefully you
can finish looking for the locket.” Says Rhonda.
“Show us to her.” Adalyn and Eli reply. Rhonda and
James flew back to Lily as Eli and Adalyn followed.
“You will never be able to release her Eli! She is all mine!”
shouts the Zonza.
“I will, even if I die doing it!” exclaims Eli in return to
Zonza’s threat.
“Oh yeah! Well we will see about that, wont we!” Replies
Zonza.
Adalyn and Eli finally spot Lily trapped in a clear box. Eli
runs towards her, but Adalyn holds him back.
“Don’t hurt yourself Eli! That won’t do either of you any
good.” Says Adalyn.
“I am going to release her, and If I have to get hurt in
order to do that, that is what is going to happen.” Replies
Eli confidently. Eli sneaks up around the box Lily was
trapped in. He looks around trying to figure out a way to
get lily out, but is unsuccessful. He runs back to Adalyn,
and looks for something sharp to try and break the box
with.
“Adalyn! Look for something big and sharp!” Eli exclaims.
“I am, here, there is a Log from a Daulian Larch tree.”
Replies Adalyn.
“Thanks!” Shouts Eli in return.
Eli runs towards the box breaking it with the log! Lily runs
out and hugs Eli.
Lily exclaims, “I love you Eli thank you!!”
“You’re ….”
“Hold on now!” Shouts the Zonza.
“Where do you think you are going with her young man?”
exclaims Zonza.
“Away from you of course!” Eli shouts in reply.
In rage, Zonza pulls out a gun and points it right at Eli.
“Now where do you think you’re going? I will shoot you if
you move!” Zonza shouts.
Eli and Lily start running as fast as they can towards the
coal mine.
“AHHH! Ouch!” shouts Eli.
“What is it Eli?” exclaims Lily.
“Shot….Shot….in the arm!” he replies.
Chapter 6
Wondering
“Can you make it to the coal mine, I can help you there. If
we stop running now Zonza will catch us and we will have
no chance at all to finding the locket.” Lily states.
“Yeah I think so.” Eli says in pain. Adalyn follows closely
behind Eli and lily.
“Finally!” Eli whispers.
“We made it.” Replies Adalyn.
“Let me help you.” Replies Lily. Lily nurses Eli’s wound.
The three of them sit in that same back room as before in
silence. Nighttime comes, and they start talking because
it has been long enough from when they escaped that
Zonza would probably be long gone by now.
“We still have to find the missing piece of the locket.”
Says Lily.
“Where could it be, we’ve covered all the land and
haven’t found it or even gotten a clue to where it could
be.” Says Adalyn.
“Let me see that map again Eli.” Says Lily. Lily observes
the map for the rest of the night until she finally figures it
out.
“Ah hah!” Exclaims Lily.
“I know where it is!” she says.
“We have looked everywhere, how did you just figure it
out now?” Eli questioned.
“Well, you see on the map on the bottom it has the date
July 31st, 1984. The day I was born. Then right next to it
there is a house.” Says Lily.
“That has to be where the locket is!” She says.
“But we have been everywhere and haven’t seen a house
either.” Says Adalyn.
“Why do you two always have to be so negative?” says
Lily.
“Just follow me.” She says.
The three walked all night into the next morning looking.
Lily led the search and the other two followed behind
her.
“Again, what about the house?” questioned Eli.
“The house and the birth date together and you still don’t
get it?” Lily asked.
“Yeah we still don’t get it.” Replied Adalyn.
“The house where I was born!” shouts Lily.
“OH. But still, how are we going to find it?” asks Eli.
“How, we just did?” said Lily.
“What do you mean we just did?” Asked Adalyn.
“We are standing right on it!” lily Exclaims.
Chapter 7
House I once lived in
“We are standing on ice, called permafrost.” Says Eli.
“Yes we are, because this land is part of the Arctic Circle,
but the ground used to be the ground of a house.” Says
lily.
“There was another part to the letter that I found last
night. You see when I was born, Zonza was a logger,
someone who cuts down trees in the forest, and he saw
my mom talking to the animals. He became so jealous of
her gift that he chased her and tried to kill her just so he
could have her gift. He didn’t know that my birth mother
was pregnant with me until he tried to capture her and
failed. My mother gave birth to me in this house, and she
had little time to get away before Zonza came. So she
gave birth to me and broke her locket and put one piece
on my neck and one piece she buried in the ground. She
knew that the loggers were going to knock down the
home, so she could not just hide it in there because it
would be to easily found. Then she knew Zonza was not
going to give up looking for me and her, so he left me
with a letter and her locket on the front doorstep of a
house she knew would take good care of me.” Says lily.
“Wow! That is an amazing story.” Says Eli.
Adalyn replies, “Yes, I can agree with that.”
“My birth mother was going to come back and get me
when I was older, but she died first.” Says lily.
“We must find that locket. For you, and for your
mother.” Says Eli.
“I will start digging!” replies Adalyn. The trio dug into the
snow and ice for two days carefully observing every inch
of ground for the beloved locket. Then finally Eli
exclaimed, “I found it!”
He slowly and carefully walked over to Lily. “You know
you have the most beautiful eyes.” Eli says to Lily.
“Yeah someone’s told me that before.” Lily said smiling.
Eli took the missing piece of locket and attached it to the
locket he still had from when she gave it to him to
protect. He leaned over and attached the locket around
her neck. Where it would be forever. Then he leaned
over and kissed her on the cheek.
“I love you.” Eli whispered.
“I love you too.” Lily replied.
