School of Chemistry & Molecular Biosciences M.G. & R.A. Plowman Scholarship in Inorganic Chemistry Guidelines & Application Background This scholarship was established in 2005 by a bequest to the University under the will of the late Mrs M.G. Plowman in memory of her late husband Ron Plowman, Professor of Inorganic Chemistry and a former Head of the Department of Chemistry at UQ. The object of the scholarship is to promote visits by research higher degree students within the area of inorganic chemistry, or allied disciplines within the School of Chemistry & Molecular Biosciences, to visit overseas laboratories for the purpose of collaborative research for a period of between one and twelve months to assist in the recipient's professional development. Value of the award The value of the scholarship is up to $3000 towards the cost of visiting an overseas laboratory for the purpose of collaborative research. Eligibility Applicants must be confirmed research higher degree students undertaking postgraduate research in inorganic chemistry or allied disciplines and enrolled through the School of Chemistry and Molecular Biosciences. Provisional candidates who have not passed confirmation and late-stage candidates who have completed their thesis review are not eligible to apply. Tenure The scholarship may be held for up to 1 year from the date of award, for the period of travel. Application lodgement An application consists of: Statement describing how the placement will benefit the applicant’s research and professional development (up to 200-words) Academic curriculum vitae including bibliography Statement of support from the principal advisor Statement of support from the host laboratory Applications must be submitted as a single pdf file emailed to rhd@scmb.uq.edu.au by the closing date. Selection Process Applicants will be ranked on the basis of: Academic achievement and potential for scholastic success, and How the experience will enhance the applicants research and professional development. Applications will be approved by the Head of School on the recommendation of the SCMB Research Higher Degree Studies Committee. Final Report A one page report must be submitted to the SCMB Research Higher Degree Studies Committee within one month of completion of the travel.
