www.theaet.com Step 1- complete Profile info (especially awards.. do not skip) DO NOT SKIT THIS SECTION!! 1 yr= 170 hrs 2years/4 semester= 360 hrs On RESUME—spend time on it Use complete sentences on goals Use list format on all others Step 2—Set up SAE experiences/Classes: Do SAE Agreement EX: My parents allow me to use their barn and facilities for my SAE project in exchange for my labor around the barn and house. I am also required to maintain good grades, a good attitude, and a good rapport with my teachers. I realize I must pass all classes in order to exhibit my project. I will maintain this agreement with my parents. Don’t forget to do the rest of the tabs. On the name of the SAE put the year and the show that you are showing it for. o EX: 2013 HLSR Market Swine Step 3- Input Journal Hours 110 hrs total 75 in class 35 outside class (you can count 20 hours of your SAE towards your outside class) Don’t forget to change the dates and do it on the correct date Don’t forget to identify the UNIT A B C D etc, Don’t put everything under A Don’t forget to input hours in other categories, leadership, officer activities, show placings, under experiences, etc. EX: December 15—I have completed Agricultural Science 101—75 hrs – in class unit A If you have an SAE 20 hrs outside—I raised a market lamb SAE… put in Experience, etc related category Select a minimum of 1 hrs per unit to cover all TAKS and areas of course Make sure you have 35 hrs of outside activities related to course Outside class examples District, Area, State, National Conventions 3 hrs for each. (break down a day into voting delegate, listened to convention speaker, attended leadership luncheon, attended career booths at convention, ect) Leadership convention, CDE LDE competitions, clinics Greenhand camp (again if you want to claim more than 3 hours break it up Chapter meetings, officer camps, community activities Power point or posters made for class demonstrations Breed or diseases poster for class demonstration On SAE do not forget your SAE experiences like deworming, vaccinating, feeding, shows, showmanship.. etc. *** Community service hours *** in the heading make sure that you put community service Texas State Beach Cleanup (Community Service) www.theaet.com Step 4: If you have beginning inventory Input what you owned or had on feed on the first day of Ag class Step 5: Purchase Inventory Purchase your inventory for resale, heifers, steers, lambs, pigs, ag mech materials, etc. o IMPORTANT—input livestock purchase as o 1 head, 40 lbs NOT 1 head Step 6: Expenses Input expenses to the SAE VERY IMPORTANT—input feed in the memo section as ex. o 200 lbs, Moormans 272, 18% NOT as 4 bags feed o 5 cc, safeguard de-wormer (not buying 1 bottle, use dosage per de-worming) Do a yearly pen rent or you can do it monthly see website for suggested fees: www.theaet.com resource pages, Step 7: Input Income Very IMPORTANT—input livestock sales as o 1 head, 240 lbs NOT 1 head This will allow the AET tracker to configure your ADG, Feed conversions, etc. Step 8: Review your Reports for errors or pounds of feed fed, hay, de-wormer, etc. EX. If you fed a pig and had a beginning wt of 40 pounds and sold at 240 lbs, you gained 100 pounds. How many pounds of feed should you have fed on average? If you only show 400 pounds of feed you may have to do some explanation at degree check, Avg conversion on swine is 3 to 1. For every three pounds of feed fed you should gain 1 pound. So that means that: 1 head 40 lbs beginning wt. When sold—1 head 240 lbs Should have feed 3x200 pounds of feed= 600 pounds purchased on avg. 400lbs Purina show chow is 18% cattle Just some averages: When figuring de-worming try not to purchase an entire bottle of one pig/lamb etc. Figure your dosage and cost animal per month EX: Meds figure dosage ivermectin 50 cc $1.71 on beef Pigs/lambs $0.80 2 cc Don’t forget hay Step 9: Applications/Record Books Go to reports, look under Awards/degree and choose the applications Not sure what you are qualified for go to Learning Resources, Recourse pages and look in AGR Proficiency Handbook for info. FYI Use portifolio for record keeping and awards For more detailed and probably better information use the AET Learning Resources for teachers/students on the AET website. This is just a quick version to get started.
