Letters from MNSGNA Members I would like to thank the MNSGNA Board for the educational scholarship to attend the 2015 National SGNA course in Baltimore. I was such a wonderful opportunity to listen and learn new information from all the courses that I attended, and to meet and network with colleges from all over. And opportunities to visit with vendors. I was especially impressed with a few new procedures that I never heard of before, for the treatment of GERD. TIF procedure done by GI and the Lynx procedure done by surgeons. The many updates and discussion on infection prevention. My new favorite buzzword “increase yield”- which can pertain to just about everything we do! It was such a great experience, and I am so fortunate I was able to attend. Thanks again! Donna Kill Thanks to a scholarship from the MnSGNA, I had the opportunity to attend the 42nd Annual SGNA course in Baltimore, MD. It was not disappointing. There were over 1300 GI nurses from all over the USA and from China and Nigeria. There were multiple educational sessions and the vendor room was full of new products and technology. Sedation and infections control were the “hot” topics. We all want to do it right for our patients and our co-workers. The conference gives you a chance to hear from experts on what the standards are and what you can do for your department. Information is given for you to bring back to work to share with co-workers and management on ways we can improve. On call hours and staffing are common issues with no easy answers. Sometimes it is nice to know that you are not alone. Some take away highlights: -Today we screen approximately 65% of the population with some type of testing, not always a colonoscopy. Goal for 2018 is 80%. One test receiving strong interest is the FIT-Immunochemical – test for cost and ease of use for patients. -Obesity is a big issue for all especially GI health. - An engaged, dynamic ENDO health team is good for the patients, team and hospital or clinic. I want to thank the MnSGNA for the scholarship to all me to attend this conference and encourage all GI nurses to become ACTIVE with MnSGNA. I am a past board membered I realize all the good MnSGNA does for Minnesota GI nurses. There is strength in numbers! Mary Ann Salman- CGRN
