Glazed Aluminum Curtain Wall
Page 1
This section addresses Pittco 70 Wall XT Curtain Wall System, and includes an aluminum frame
assembly and double or triple pane sealed insulating unit glazed lites, for exterior applications, shop
fabricated, factory pre-finished, including field glazing. The system application is intended for
multiple story installations. Glass and Glazing is referenced to Section 088000. Sealants are
referenced to Section 079200. Door hardware may be specified in this section or specified in Section
087100; edit text accordingly. Operable sash, if any, is usually specified in Aluminum Windows,
Section 085100. Exterior sunshades are specified in Exterior Sun Control Devices 107113. Where
work of this section integrates with another glazing assembly, carefully coordinate both sections to
function together. Air barrier and vapor retarder continuity from this system to adjacent construction
is critical to successful building air and moisture tightness; specify compatible materials in
conjunction with Sections 072500, 072600, and 072700. This section includes performance,
proprietary and descriptive type specifications. Edit to avoid conflicting requirements.
During editing, delete all blue text boxes such as this text box. Also, select one of the options shown in
blue for each section and delete the remaining options. Change the text color to black for the selected
option.

SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
Use this article carefully; restrict statements to describe components used to assemble the system. Do
not repeat statements made if the Section includes article in Part 1, Section 1.1.
A. Aluminum curtain wall assembly consists of tubular aluminum framing sections with deep polyamide
isobar for thermal separation and glazed with screw applied exterior retainers covered with finished
faces . System is shop fabricated with internal reinforcing as needed, anchorage, attachment devices,
and related flashings.
Fabrication and erection of the glazed frame assembly is usually left to the prerogative of the
assembly fabricator. If site conditions, opening tolerances or quality of the work may be an issue or a
concern, it may be prudent to require either shop assembly or field erection of the frame assembly.
Select one of the following options as appropriate.
B. Frame Assembly: [Stick built or site assembled.] [Shop assembled in ladder frames.]
C.
1.5
PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
Use this article carefully; restrict statements to identify system performance requirements or
functional criteria only. Delete paragraphs not appropriate to project. Performance specifying
permits system manufacturers the latitude to adjust proprietary systems to achieve specified
requirements. Rely on this article as the basis for assembly criteria specifying and minimize the
material and component statements so not to conflict with performance criteria. If more stringent
criteria are being considered, refer to AAMA and ASTM test methods and associated documents for
guidance or consult with Pittco representative.
A. Assembly Design: Design and size components to withstand dead and live loads caused by positive and
negative wind pressure acting normal to the plane of the wall as calculated in accordance with the
applicable code.
B.
Assembly: Accommodate without damage to components or deterioration of seals, movement
between system and supporting structure including live load deflection, story drift and twist, long term
creep, and column shortening.
For mullion, corner, and special change of wall plane conditions, limit glazing sealant design
movement to 20 percent maximum for elastomeric sealants or 5 percent maximum for acrylic or butyl
sealants. Special conditions may require special statements in the paragraph below; edit accordingly.
