Lab report Alicia Molina Research question: Which type of glacier deposits more sediment per square meter, continental glaciers or valley glaciers? Hypothesis: I think that continental glaciers deposit more sediment than valley glaciers; i think this because continental glaciers are bigger and heavier than valley glaciers so they do the process of plucking more than valley glaciers. So, if there is more erosion there is more deposition. Materials: A continental glacier A valley glacier An airplane Dump trucks (number of trucks depend on the amount of sediment in glaciers) Meter tape People (number of people depend on the amount of sediment) Lab room Procedure: 1. a lot of people (for example 25) go on an airplane to a continental glacier (for example Greenland) 2. In there they will go to places where there is deposit sediment, with the meter tape, measure the area with sediment. 3. There, they will put the sediment in the dump trucks 4. Then they will take the trucks with sediment to the lab room. 5. There they will measure the number of sediment with the meter tape by measuring the volume of the truck and then measuring how much volume of the truck does the sediment occupies. 6. Then in the airplane the people will go to a glacier valley, there they will do steps 2-5. 7. then in the lab room calculate results and compare results. Example table: Volume of sediment in meters Continental glacier 240 sq meters Valley glacier 85 sq meters Square meter where deposition was 10000000 sq meters 3000 sq meters Sediment per square meter 2400000000 sediment/meter4 255000 sediment/meter4
