Qualitative/Quantitative Assignment Overview:
You will need to go to YouTube.com to find any 3 TED talk videos so that you can practice
taking notes. (You can refer to the notes described above on qualitative & quantitative notes.)
The assignment is broken into 3 parts. You’ll need to read the directions closely. Then email it
to me and attach the WORD document at: susan_scales@conestogavalley.org .
Wait until you have all 3 sections of the assignment completed with a screen shot of each one
pasted on the same WORD document prior to turning it in.
The whole project is worth 60 points. You have 2 days to complete the assignment. You should
have a minimum of 25 notes per video.
RECAP: AFTER EACH SET OF NOTES….take a screen shot of your notes and place
them on a WORD document. Always add the URL of the video you watched. You will turn in
one WORD document with 3 screen shots of your work.
Don’t know how to do a screen shot?
Look on the bottom row of your keyboard
Find a key that says PrtScr
Press it one time
Go to a word document and “paste”. Your screen shot should appear.
Now we are ready to get started
Ted Talk Video 1
Step 1: Launch YouTube
Step 2: Put YouTube on one side of the screen
Step 3: Launch One-Note (Go to Start – type in One Note & it will show up. Click to launch)
Step 4: You will practice Quantitative notes on one side and Qualitative notes on
another with a clear heading above each column in One-Note using any TED Talk video.
Step 5: Split your screen and put one note on one side and YouTube on the other side.
Step 6: Plug in headphones so that you can concentrate.
Step 7: When finished with your notes, copy/paste or take a screen shot and paste it in a Word
document.
Step 8: Save to your Note Taking folder in your student drive.

Take out paper and pencil
Use an organizational map for these notes
Take notes with pencil & paper
Use the qualitative method for the main areas and qualitative notes for the sub
sections
Write down the URL of the video
Take a photo of your notes with your phone
Send it to yourself so you can attach the photo to the WORD doc you’re
creating. No phone? Use your laptop camera or just hand it to Mrs.

Split your screen
Put YouTube on one side of the screen
Put https://cacoo.com/lang/en/home
on the other side.
Plug in head phones to listen.
Take qualitative notes in one color and quantitative notes in another.
Create as many “parent” levels in quantitative format, as many “child”
levels as needed, and as many “sibling” levels when needed for qualitative
format.
Do not to stop the video at any point. (Pretend like the presentation is live.)

Here’s the vocabulary to help you understand this hierarchy style of note taking
Parent (Main point)
Child (a secondary point that is related to the parent idea)
Sibling (a similar point that is also related to the secondary notes beneath the parent idea)

Take a screen shot of your finished notes
Place it in your WORD document with the URL of the video.
Save it in your Note Taking folder in your student drive
Now it is time to be sure that all 3 screen shots are pasted to the Note Taking Assignment
document.

Be sure your name is on the document.
Step 14:
At the end of the project, please type a paragraph that summarizes how you felt
about each software/ technique.
Step 15:
Add your opinion if the lecturer matched your “learning style” or “mind style”.
Step 16:
Using your school email, send the WORD document to Mrs. Scales at the
following email address: susan_scales@conestogavalley.org
