Graduation and commencement are two different things:
Graduation means that you are completing your degree and earning your diploma. Students are eligible
to graduate in December (fall), May (spring), and August (summer).
Commencement means that you are going to participate in the May graduation ceremony. Fall
graduates are eligible to participate the May following graduation; Spring graduates are eligible to
participate the May of graduation; Summer graduates are eligible to participate the May preceding
graduation but may have no more than 12 hours outstanding for the Summer term.
