Greenridge Equestrian Center Welcome to Greenridge Equestrian Center. We are excited that you chose Greenridge to help you pursue your equestrian goals! We have enclosed important information regarding our policies and rules for the barn, along with an informational sheet and a liability release form that needs to be filled out and returned. Greenridge is a fun, safe environment which is only made possible by everyone doing their part and working together. We ask that everyone come to the barn with an open mind and no negativity. Students should be ready and willing to learn, work hard, and put in the time that horses require. We ask that students arrive 30 minutes early to get their horse ready or to help get their horse ready, so they can be on their horse and ready to go by the time their lesson is scheduled to start. They should also plan to stay about 15-30 minutes after their lesson in order to cool down their horse, untack them, and turn them out. We do use the same horse for multiple lessons, so if you are not sure if you need to help tack up the horse you will be riding, then you can call or text Sarah or Beth a few hours before your lesson. We expect our lesson students who are able to take as good care of the horse they ride that day as if it were their own. If you are a parent and would like to drop your student off on their lesson day when other lessons are going on, just check with us and we will have someone around in the barn to keep an eye on them and give them some easy chores to do, or they may watch the other lessons going on that day. Greenridge Stables is not responsible for your children and any accidents, damage, injury, illness, etc. that may occur. If you ever have any questions or concerns about anything feel free to contact Beth Ellenberg or Sarah Banks. Below is their contact information. Lesson Policy: Riders should arrive at least 30 minutes early to get their horse ready if they are able to do so, and at least 10-15 minutes early for the younger students to help their horse ready. This helps ensure that students are able to be on their horse and ready to go by the time their lesson is scheduled to start. Sometimes horses will be ready already if we are using the horse you will be riding for a lesson before yours, so if you are unsure about that feel free to call or text Sarah or Beth. Riders should check the lesson schedule posted outside the lounge when they first arrive to see what horse they are assigned to ride for that day. Riders are also required to cool out their horses, untack, and put their assigned horses back out where they need to be if they are able to do so. They must be sure to put back all equipment they used, including their helmet, tack, and brushes, in an orderly fashion. We try and run on schedule as much as possible, and if you are running late we still plan to start and stop the lesson on time, not allowing for more than 5 minutes extra if you are late. Otherwise, the rest of the day’s lesson schedule also gets messed up. Therefore, it is very important to be ready to go on time, so if you need more than 30 minutes to get ready, then get there earlier. Instructors have the right to hold a ground/theory lesson when they deem it is appropriate and necessary. Proper Attire: All riders are expected to wear closed toe shoes, preferably boots, long pants, and an SEI approved helmet. We have helmets available for use in the tack room. Baggy pants are not allowed, as they can get caught up in the tack and potentially create a mishap. Long hair should be neat and pulled back. Anyone entering the barn including parents and guests are required to wear closed toe shoes, preferably boots. In the summer no revealing clothing will be permitted, including swim suit tops, short shorts, or skimpy tops. No Shows: Before taking your first lesson, a $45 deposit is required. This is to ensure that we do not have any “no shows.” We require cancellations to be made at least 4 hours in advance, 24 hours in advance if possible. If you do not cancel a minimum of 4 hours ahead and do not show for your lesson, you will still be charged for the lesson by using your deposit and you will be required to make another deposit before signing up for another lesson. Payments: You may pay for each lesson as you take them or you may pay ahead. Payments will be put into the payment box and whoever is making the payment is required to sign the payment sheet in the lounge showing that you paid. You may pay by cash, check, card, or online through Paypal. Makeup Lessons: Make up lessons are available to those who follow the cancellation policies. Lessons will be based on availability. Inclement Weather: When it is raining we will still have inside lessons on horse care and management. There is still plenty to learn with horses while not riding that will further enhance their knowledge and increase their skills. If we decide to cancel due to the weather you will receive a phone call or text as soon as we decide, within four hours of your lesson. If you do not hear from us, then we are still doing lessons. If you choose to not attend an indoor lesson but do not call, then you will still be charged. Events & Horse Shows: Greenridge holds several shows, clinics, and other events throughout the year that is open to everyone. You will probably hear about these events during your lessons, but we will also send out an email to those who are interested. We can send out the paperwork through email, and the paperwork will also be in the barn lounge. Once an email is sent out about an event, it is important that you sign up as soon as possible if you or your student wants to join the event, as spots may fill up quickly. Food & Drinks: Riders are permitted to bring food and drinks and put them in the fridge that is in the lounge, but please do not leave anything there. If something is in the fridge for more than a few days, it will be thrown out. Please do not eat or drink anything but your own without asking. It is important for riders to bring lots of water, especially when it is warmer outside. Even in the cold months, however, riders need to be sure they are drinking plenty of water. Refund Policy: No refunds are given for riding lessons or any other riding programs. You may get your deposit back however, if you do not use it. Parents & Visitors: Parents and visitors are not allowed to help groom the horse unless special permission is given, and release forms have been signed. We allow anyone to come and watch the riding lessons, but we ask that there are no interruptions once the lesson starts. Please do not try and talk to the student or instructor while the lesson is going on, and wait until after the lesson is over for any questions, comments, or concerns. If your child falls off, please remain where you are, quietly and calmly, and wait for the instructor to ask you to come in the arena. If you show the child that you are worried then they will be more worried and may hurt themselves further. If you are not there and your student falls off, we will call and let you know or if they do not seem hurt we will make sure you know when you pick your student up. Liability Release Forms: Students must have a filled out and signed release form before the first lesson, one for each person who rides. Guests are also required to have a signed release form if they are going to be around the horses, either handling them or riding them. Weight Limit: The weight limit for our riding program is 200 pounds. This is to ensure that our horse’s backs do not get too sore and stiff. Barn Rules: Watch your children at all times. Keep all gates closed and locked at all times. If you open a gate or stall door, please close it. Do not run in the barn, or walk behind horses. Do not ride horses in the barn. Clean up your horse’s poop from in and around the barn area and wash rack. Clean wash rack when you are finished with it. Wrap up hose when you are done. Do not leave horse hair around the barn. Pick it up. Do not feed or ride any horses without permission from the owner. Do not use a stall unless you have made prior arrangements. If you do have a horse in a stall, clean it thoroughly, EVERY day. Do not feed horses in the wash rack, barn aisle, or either end of the barn. This attracts ants and rats. Be sure to put away all tack and brushes before you leave. If you are walking in pastures and see trash, please pick it up. No loose horses in the barn or arena.
