Job Description:
We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed teacher to deliver a high quality music
curriculum to the pupils at the British International School of New York. The British International
School of New York (BIS-NY), in an international school for boys and girls from 3 to 14. Candidates
should be prepared to come to the post with idealism, pragmatism and an infectious love of music.

Teaching/Job Responsibilities
o Teach music curriculum to elementary age children/PYP in collaboration with class teachers
and IBPYP coordinator.
o Work closely with Head of Music to align school-wide music curriculum, plan for musical
school events including annual Winter and Spring concerts, and cultivate a strong homeschool relationship.
o Create and update PYP unit of inquiry planners.
o Opportunity to direct Junior Choir. (Years 3 - 5)
o Work with Deputy Head and classroom teachers to design and implement music planners
that will support and integrate Inter Baccalaureate units. This includes a 6-week music
theater unit in the spring that culminates in a Year 2 play.
o Attend weekly faculty meetings and support all-school events.

Teacher Specifications
o A genuine passion for music, energy, and love for teaching children.
o Strong piano/guitar/vocal skills are important.
o Well organized with teaching material/lesson planning and time management.
o Excellent communication skills and be willing to adapt to the demands of an international
school.
o A working knowledge of prominent music education/methodologies. (Kodaly, Orff, Dalcroze,
Feierabend, etc.)
o Knowledge of the IB/PYP preferred.
o International perspective
o Strong piano/guitar/vocal skills are important.


background as well as knowledge of the PYP is a distinct advantage.

Beginning Salary - $48,000.00 for the first year.
NYU Kodaly Level 1 Training and Certification; (7/1/13 - 7/19/13)
Lunch is provided free of charge in the school dining hall.
Teachers are required to attend In-Service/Inset and Staff Meetings.
Subject to fingerprinting and background check.
The post becomes available in August 2013.
