Adult behavioral health services are part of the Louisiana Behavioral Partnership managed by
the Office of Behavioral Health. Any Medicaid eligible adult in Louisiana may receive the
following behavioral health service if medical necessity is established by a licensed mental
health professional:
o Addiction services (outpatient and residential)
o Outpatient & inpatient hospital psychiatric residential treatment
o Case conference
o Treatment plan development
o Psychosocial rehabilitation
o Crisis intervention
o Community psychiatric support & treatment
o Assertive community treatment
o Outpatient therapy



Medicaid (shown in the question above).


The Louisiana Office of Behavioral Health (OBH) ensures care and support to improve quality of
life for people with mental illness and addictive disorders. OBH mental health services provide a
variety of treatments for people with mental health or substance abuse illnesses, such as crisis
management, day and psychosocial rehab, family support services, mental health clinics,
specialized inpatient facilities, and acute units.

Treatment providers must be contracted with OBH and must have the appropriate license and
certification to treat patients in Louisiana.

7) Is there coverage for residential substance abuse treatment? What are the parameters?

Louisiana has limited residential services available for Medicaid beneficiaries. All inpatient
admissions require registration and length of stay assignment. They also must be deemed
medically necessary by a health care professional.

8) What is the process and what are the regulations for treatment providers to be able to participate?


Providers must be licensed or certified to practice in the state of Louisiana. They also must be
Louisiana Medicaid Certified to receive reimbursements.
Medicaid reimbursement is available for mental and behavioral health services covered under
various service categories: physician services, inpatient and outpatient hospital services,
licensed practitioner’s services, clinics, and rehabilitative services.

9) Is dental care covered?


Dental care is an option in the Marketplace, but is not included in the basic plan (except for
children).
Louisiana Medicaid adult dental coverage is limited to a bi-annual screening, and exams and xrays are covered in conjunction with denture construction.
