Problem:
To measure the knowledge gained by participants at a nutrition workshop.
Population:






20-40 years old
Women with children
Overweight individuals
Lower income
Lower education level
Limited Nutritional knowledge
Using the scale:
I would administer the survey before the workshop was conducted. This would assess the
population’s base knowledge as well as personal behaviors in the area of nutrition. Then, I would
conduct the nutritional workshop. After the workshop, I would give the same survey to the participants.
I would analyze the difference between the two administrations of the survey in order to gauge the
knowledge gained by the participants. This survey would serve to show if the nutritional workshop was a
good workshop and has done its job of educating the target population. The first four questions are to
gain insight into the client’s national habits. Questions 5-13 look to address the knowledge already
known by the population.
Scoring (Questions 5-13):
<4 Correct = Very limited knowledge
5-6 Correct = Average knowledge
6-8 Correct = Above average knowledge
8+ Correct = Nutritionally Aware
Knowing what the population knows before the nutritional workshop is important in order to
gauge if the population has learned anything. It also serves as information on what needs to be taught
to the population in the workshop. By knowing what areas the population is lacking knowledge in, the
workshop can be improved to better teach the population.
