2. RMBL has an old infrastructure. Due to time constraints, maintenance of housing as

relate to logistics, and any other related issue, RMBL reserves the right to alter space
assignments at any time and for any reason related to the above, except to the extent

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT CHOOSING YOUR DATES
Please be as precise as possible in requesting your reservations. Between 1 April and 1
May, researchers or their assistants who change their length of stay for a total of more
than 7 days (e.g. if you planned to be in Gothic for 65 days but change that to 57) will
incur a one-time fee of $50.
Any date changes after 1 May that result in a total reduction in length of stay of more
than 7 days during the period of June 1 and August 24 will result in a charge of 100% of
the lost revenue associated with station fees, laboratory fees, and housing to RMBL (after
the 7 days have been subtracted).
Dates can be changed once at no charge. After one change has been made (either
reduction or extension), we charge a $25 processing fee for each additional change of
dates affecting the period between June 1 and August 24.
Fee waivers will only be granted in cases of personal illness (with doctor's
documentation) or family emergencies such as death or illness in family.
Researchers who decide after 1 May that they wish to extend the length of their stay
should understand that it might not be possible if their housing or lab has been assigned
to someone else. There is no financial penalty for extending a stay, just the chance that it
might not be possible to accommodate your needs. If you decide to extend your stay, you
will need to let the Administration Office know ASAP. You may not be able to stay in
the same cabin if you extend your stay.
You are also responsible for any date changes that your Research Assistants are making.
If one of your original Research Assistants cancels, you are responsible to find a
replacement. The days not covered by the replacement are subject to the above policies.
Please let us know, if we can be of assistance finding a replacement.


Research Assistants
Please list your planned Research Assistants, and rank them in order of importance for
receiving a housing assignment. The people you list must submit an RA Application
before April 1st to be put in the queue for housing. Research Assistants who apply after
April 1 of the research year will automatically go on the waiting list for housing and will
not receive assignments until the third week of April on a first come, first served basis. At
that point, the available housing slots in Gothic may all be full, precluding your Research
Assistants from receiving on-site housing.
Please note that any research interns you supervise count as RAs, but your students
enrolled in the RMBL Educational Program, i.e. Full-time or Part-time Independent
Research, do not. Your Research Assistants must complete the RA Application. Please do
not include specific housing details for your listed RAs. Any specific housing details
should be tied to the application of that individual rather than listed here.

Meals
We encourage you to sign up for meals in the Community Center, as this place is a great
location for potential collaboration and meaningful interaction with other scientists.
Meal prices for 2016 are:
$8.50 for breakfast
$11.00 for lunch
$12.50 for dinner
$29.00/day for three meals per day
You can sign up for all meals, or for one meal/day only. Please understand that if you
sign up for a specific meal plan, you will automatically be billed for that meal plan
whether or not you are actually eating in the Dining Hall.
If you would like more flexibility than the plans offered, you can sign up in the Dining
Hall 24 hours in advance for any meal. Please either email cook@rmbl.org to sign up, or
sign up 24-hours in advance in the sign-up binder in the Dining Hall.
Non-cooking cabin residents: You have two options. You can either select “All Meals” to
have three meals a day at the Dining Hall. You could also sign up to cook in the domestic
kitchen in the Community Center, if space is available. See below for more information
on cooking in the domestic kitchen.
Cooking cabin residents: You are welcome to sign up for a meal plan even though you
are in a cooking cabin.
When choosing your Meal Type, note that vegetarian meals are prepared based on the
number of eaters. If you select "Meat" you must wait one half hour before you may eat
the vegetarian meal and vice versa if you select "Vegetarian." The Dining Hall does not
currently accommodate vegans.
If you have other dietary restrictions such as wheat allergies, etc. please select "Food
10
Allergy" in addition to 'Meat' OR 'Vegetarian' and then use the text box to indicate your
allergy.
Use of Domestic Kitchen: Residents may use the domestic kitchen in the Community
Center, if space is available. They will sign up through the Administration office at
office@rmbl.org to have a zone and code assigned. The cost is $1.00/day/person with a
$25.00 minimum. If RMBL assigns a resident to use the domestic kitchen, due to other
housing constraints, the use is free. Use of the domestic kitchen is free, if the above water
lines in the townsite have been turned off. A cleaning fee of $40.00/hr may be charged if
the space is not left in a clean condition after check-out.

Parking at RMBL
RMBL has very limited parking. Parking permits are mandatory and cost $6/day per
vehicle for scientists with approved research plans, with a maximum charge of $360 for
the summer. Undergraduate students and RAs will be charged $10.00/day per vehicle,
with a maximum charge of $600 for the summer. Please go to rmbl.org/parking for more
information. We will again have a free satellite parking lot in Mt. Crested Butte this year.
All RMBL Users parking in Gothic will need to park in a designated parking zone and
display a parking sticker or temporary parking permit on their vehicles. Parking on the
County Road in Gothic, at the RMBL Visitor's Parking Lot south of the Copper Creek
bridge, or Forest Service Land within 1 mile of RMBL is a violation of RMBL parking
policy and subject to fines. Parking on Gothic Road is for the general public only.
Parking fees are in effect between June 1 and August 24. Parking is free outside these
11
dates but vehicles must still be parked in assigned locations only. There are separate
parking rates for Principal Investigator (PI) Research Vehicles and for Student/RA/Guest
Vehicles. PIs can purchase parking permits at the ‘Research Vehicle’ rate for vehicles
that are used by the research team, regardless of who owns the vehicle. This is allowable
on the condition that the vehicles are primarily used for research. Parking permits may be
transferred between individuals (for example: between members of a carpool group or
from a PI to members of his or her research team). Scientists owning vehicles through
RMBL are required to pay parking fees in Gothic.
Parking assignments will be made by the RMBL Administration Office. Please contact
the Operations Coordinator at office@rmbl.org to make reservations. Parking
assignments will be made on a first-come, first-served basis. Commuters and residents
not expecting to park in Gothic on a daily basis may communicate with the Operations
Coordinator how to track and report their days.
