St Peter’s Church, Woodmansterne ‘Discovering, celebrating and sharing life with God through Jesus Christ.’ Thinking ahead Close relatives are left with many decisions to make at the death of a loved one. Many wonder if they are doing the right thing at a time of turmoil. You could make this time much easier for your relatives if you let them know what you would like to happen when you die. Please use this leaflet to help you make some of the decisions. You could write down what you would like in the spaces below each question and make sure that your next of kin knows. 1. Who knows what you want? 2. Have you made a will? Have you appointed a solicitor? (Give name below) 3. Have you chosen a Funeral Director? Local branches include: W.A. Truelove & Son Co-Op Funeral Directors 4. 01737 212160 020 8642 9788 Would you like particular people to be contacted? 5. Would you like to be buried in St Peter’s churchyard? If not at St. Peter’s, then where? 6. Would you like to be cremated? 7. Which crematorium? North East Surrey at Morden, Croydon Randall’s Park at Leatherhead Surrey & Sussex at Horley 8. Where would you like your ashes buried? If there is a family grave at St. Peter’s, your ashes can be interred there. Otherwise they can be interred in the cremation cross or in a new plot in the churchyard . 9. Would you like a service at St. Peter’s Church? If the service takes place after the cremation, relatives and friends don’t have a long wait for the close family to return. 10. What hymns would you like? 11. Is there any music you would like at the beginning or end of the service? 12. What Bible reading would you like? 13. Do you have any memories or thoughts that you would like to be shared at the service? 14. What sort of coffin would you like? Coffins range in price from hundreds to several thousand pounds; there are even environmentally friendly coffins. 15. Would you like flowers or people to make a donation to a favourite charity? 16. Have you thought of a prepayment plan where you pay the fees beforehand? Faith in Jesus Christ assures us that death is not the end, but the doorway to eternity and a clearer encounter with God. It is not “morbid” to think about these things; all journeys require responsible planning and making these decisions could be your first bequest to your nearest and dearest. If you would like to talk to someone in the parish about any of these things, please call Revd Doug McHardie on 01737 352849 or email dougmchardie@saintpeterschurch.org.uk
