Similar methods can be used by a Human-Computer-Interface to adjust automated responses to better match that of the human interlocutor, thus providing for a more positive and engaging interaction. This project will consider the use of speech technologies to provide more responsive, engaging, interface for conventional and serious games. Currently, there is no speech based interface that is robust and widely used, nor that has been implemented to provide more engaging interactions. Speech technology methods and systems can be used for conventional and serious games as part of a new interaction paradigm that will enable players to engage with non-human characters through the use of expressive speech. This can be leveraged to create new, engaging puzzles (e.g. where a player has to talk to a character to convince them to give them an item) and to develop novel serious games e.g. to train people to be better public speakers. Please indicate the student requirements for this project Min 2.1 in an MSc. Alternatively, 2.1 or higher in a computer science/engineering based background subject. Deadline to submit applications (only for funded projects)
