WHY WE NEED PASTORS? Deuteronomy 1:38 But Joshua the son of Nun, which standeth before thee, he shall go in thither: encourage him: for he shall cause Israel to inherit it. KJV (speaking of the land of Canaan) This week I want to talk about the importance of pastors. Often times, people think they are an island unto themselves and that they really don’t need anyone to speak into their lives. That is so far from the truth. All us of need someone to speak into our lives. Carol and I have a pastor. Rev. Kenneth Hagin, Jr. is our pastor, and we look to him as a role model in leadership. We allow him to speak things into our lives as pastors and individuals. Several years ago, I preached a message called “Divine Connections”. In that message I said that people who attend particular churches are there because of a “Divine Connection” and I don’t believe that people attend churches by coincident. How many know that God tailor makes pastors for people? We have often heard that we should go to the church of our choice. Well, show me that in the Bible. Nowhere does it say to go to the church of your choice. People go and don't go to churches for different reasons. But your destiny is tied to your pastor. You’re here to help him be successful and build the Body of Christ. He’s here to help you fulfill your destiny. I really don’t believe people attend churches by coincidence. They are there by divine appointment, and that is where they will fulfill their destiny. So let’s look at why you need a pastor, the role the pastor plays in your life, and the importance of that role in your life. I want you to stop and think of as many ways as you can that cause prosperity to come to your life. I am sure the first way that comes to your mind is meditating on God’s Word. Next, you would probably think of being a doer of the Word and walking uprightly before Him, living a sanctified life. Finally, being a giver would probably come to mind. All of these are found in God’s Word and are each a part of the plan for supernatural prosperity. But here’s one you might not have thought of: being a committed member of a church. Today, just as in Joshua’s day, being submitted to a pastor, a leader, causes you to inherit the promised land of prosperity and blessing (your destiny). A good pastor represents the leadership of Jesus in your life. Like following the apostle Paul, to follow a good pastor is to follow Christ. Just like Jesus watched over His flock, the Church, a pastor watches over the sheep given to him. He is responsible for many areas of your life. He’s not to follow you home after church, to make sure your being a doer of the Word, but to pray and be watchman to see if there are particular areas of your life where you need encouragement. Hebrews 13:17 says, “Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account”. First, a pastor watches out for your soul. He teaches God’s Word so you will be able to take authority over every thought that does not line up with God’s will for your life. The care of your soul is not left with you alone, but also with a shepherd, your pastor. He prays for you “that you may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God” (Colossians 4:12). Secondly, your pastor will one day give an account to God, not only for his teaching, but also for your spiritual growth. He is benefited by your submission to his teaching, but you are also. You will be rewarded in heaven for your obedience to his revelations of the Word. You will not only be rewarded in heaven one day, but you will also be prospered right here on earth. Your pastor will cause you to inherit the blessings of God and fulfill your destiny. Until next time, God Bless You, and have a great week in Jesus. Pastor Anthony
