Liturgy: (the work of the people) The people of Genesis gather together on Sundays to worship God, to remember the story of God, and to find our place within in it again (because we forget it so often). We gather to join God’s work of cultivating new beginnings in all of us, everywhere. After our gathering, if you are in need of prayer for anything, please come to the stage area and we will pray for you. Rest easy today. God is for you. A Word About Kids at Genesis: We love kids. We love the way they move around, and we welcome the extra noise they make. Kids ages 7 and up (and any age that wants to) worship with us in the theater. Parents & grandparents: read through the liturgy with them (they’ll learn by watching you). Encourage them to shout out their answers when questions are thrown out. Help them participate in the Eucharist. Kids help us to see and know God, so let’s be grateful for the joyful noise they make! …………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… Sunday, October 26, 2014 (Twentieth Sunday after Pentecost) Doxology – public domain Praise God, from whom all blessing flow Praise Him, all creatures here below Praise Him above, ye heavenly hosts Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost Amen The Call to Worship: (fixing our minds and hearts on God as we begin) Leader: People of God! Scripture Reading (the ongoing story of God’s extravagant love for the world) Deuteronomy 34:1-12 (ESV) Then Moses went up from the plains of Moab to Mount Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, which is opposite Jericho. And the LORD showed him all the land, Gilead as far as Dan, 2 all Naphtali, the land of Ephraim and Manasseh, all the land of Judah as far as the western sea, 3 the Negeb, and the Plain, that is, the Valley of Jericho the city of palm trees, as far as Zoar. 4 And the LORD said to him, “This is the land of which I swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, ‘I will give it to your offspring.’ I have let you see it with your eyes, but you shall not go over there.” 5 So Moses the servant of the LORD died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the LORD, 6 and he buried him in the valley in the land of Moab opposite Beth-peor; but no one knows the place of his burial to this day. 7 Moses was 120 years old when he died. His eye was undimmed, and his vigor unabated. 8 And the people of Israel wept for Moses in the plains of Moab thirty days. Then the days of weeping and mourning for Moses were ended. 9 And Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom, for Moses had laid his hands on him. So the people of Israel obeyed him and did as the LORD had commanded Moses. 10 And there has not arisen a prophet since in Israel like Moses, whom the LORD knew face to 2 face, 11 none like him for all the signs and the wonders that the LORD sent him to do in the land of Egypt, to Pharaoh and to all his servants and to all his land, 12 and for all the mighty power and all the great deeds of terror that Moses did in the sight of all Israel. The Kingdom is not only beyond your efforts, it is even beyond our vision. We accomplish in our lifetime only a fraction of the magnificent enterprise that is God’s work. We cannot do everything, and there is a sense of liberation in realizing this. This enables us to do something, and to do it very well. It may be incomplete, but it is a beginning, a step along the way, an opportunity for the Lord’s grace to enter and do the rest. We may never see the end results, but that is the difference between the master builder and the worker. We are workers, not master builders, not messiahs. We are prophets of a future not our own. - Bishop Ken Untener’s prayer in memory of Archbishop Oscar Romero, who was martyred for his outspoken advocacy for the poor. Remember: On November 2 & 9, we are meeting at RiverTree School, 3733 Vera Cruz Ave. North in Crystal.
