October 26 2014 - Genesis Covenant Church

Liturgy: (the work of the people)
The people of Genesis gather together on Sundays to worship God, to remember the
story of God, and to find our place within in it again (because we forget it so often).
We gather to join God’s work of cultivating new beginnings in all of us, everywhere.
After our gathering, if you are in need of prayer for anything, please come to the
stage area and we will pray for you. Rest easy today. God is for you.
A Word About Kids at Genesis: We love kids. We love the way they move around, and we welcome the extra
noise they make. Kids ages 7 and up (and any age that wants to) worship with us in the theater. Parents & grandparents:
read through the liturgy with them (they’ll learn by watching you). Encourage them to shout out their answers when
questions are thrown out. Help them participate in the Eucharist. Kids help us to see and know God, so let’s be grateful
for the joyful noise they make!

All: We have come to be refreshed, to be renewed, to be sent out.
Leader: Children of God! Why have you come?

Create in Me
Create in Me
Create in me a clean, clean heart
Create in me a work of art
Create in me a miracle
Something real and something beautiful
By Your power I can change, I can change
'Cause You're not finished with me yet
Ohs and a Hey!
(the Hey! is a very ancient term of beckoning mostly
used in playful excitement - I promise)
You're not finished with me yet
You're not finished with me yet

He had no tears for His own griefs,
But sweat drops of blood for mine.
I Stand Amazed (How Marvelous)
Verse 3: He took my sins and my sorrows,
He made them His very own;
He bore the burden to Calvary,
And suffered and died alone.
Verse 1: I stand amazed in the presence
Of Jesus the Nazarene,
And wonder how He could love me,
A sinner, condemned, unclean.
Verse 4: When with the ransomed in glory
His face I at last shall see,
’Twill be my joy through the ages
To sing of His love for me.
Refrain: How marvelous! How wonderful!
And my song shall ever be:
How marvelous! How wonderful!
Is my Savior’s love for me!

Scripture Reading (the ongoing story of God’s extravagant love for the world)
Deuteronomy 34:1-12 (ESV)
Then Moses went up from the plains of Moab to Mount Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, which is opposite Jericho. And
the LORD showed him all the land, Gilead as far as Dan, 2 all Naphtali, the land of Ephraim and Manasseh, all the land of
Judah as far as the western sea, 3 the Negeb, and the Plain, that is, the Valley of Jericho the city of palm trees, as far
as Zoar. 4 And the LORD said to him, “This is the land of which I swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, ‘I will give it to
your offspring.’ I have let you see it with your eyes, but you shall not go over there.” 5 So Moses the servant of
the LORD died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the LORD, 6 and he buried him in the valley in the land
of Moab opposite Beth-peor; but no one knows the place of his burial to this day. 7 Moses was 120 years old when he
died. His eye was undimmed, and his vigor unabated. 8 And the people of Israel wept for Moses in the plains of Moab
thirty days. Then the days of weeping and mourning for Moses were ended. 9 And Joshua the son of Nun was full of the
spirit of wisdom, for Moses had laid his hands on him. So the people of Israel obeyed him and did as the LORD had
commanded Moses. 10 And there has not arisen a prophet since in Israel like Moses, whom the LORD knew face to
2
face, 11 none like him for all the signs and the wonders that the LORD sent him to do in the land of Egypt, to Pharaoh and
to all his servants and to all his land, 12 and for all the mighty power and all the great deeds of terror that Moses did in
the sight of all Israel.

Leader: This is the table, not of the church, but of the Lord. It is made ready for those who love God and for those who
want to love God more. So come, you who have much faith and you who have little; you who have been here often and
you who have not been here long; you who have tried to follow and you who have failed. Come, because it is the Lord
who invites you. It is God’s will that those who want God should meet God here.
Lord Have Mercy
Forever the hope in my heart
Verse 1:
When I come to You in prayer, Lord have mercy
And when I wonder if You're there, Lord have mercy
When I cannot find the way, Lord Have Mercy
Should my heart my heart begin to stray, Lord Have
Mercy
Verse 2: Death, where is your sting?
Your power is as dead as my sin
The cross has taught me to live
And mercy, my heart now to sing
Pre-Chorus 2: The day and its trouble shall come
I know that Your strength is enough
The scandal of grace, You died in my place
So my soul will live
Verse 2:
When I lay me down to sleep, Lord have mercy
And when the road ahead gets steep, Lord have mercy
When I falter, when I fail, Lord Have Mercy
May Your kindness still prevail, Lord Have Mercy
Bridge: And it's all, because of You, Jesus
It's all, because of You, Jesus
It's all, because of Your love
That my soul will live
Verse 3:
When I see Your promises, Lord have mercy
Knowing well that I am blessed, Lord have mercy
Oh may I never cease to ask, Lord Have Mercy
Til' I breathe my very last, Lord Have Mercy

Beautiful Things
Verse 1: All this pain, I wonder if I’ll ever find my way
I wonder if my life could really change at all
All this earth, could all that is lost ever be found
Could a garden come up from this ground at all

things out of the dust
You make beautiful things, You make beautiful things
out of us
Scandal of Grace
Verse 1: Grace, what have You done?
Murdered for me on that cross
Accused in absence of wrong
My sin washed away in Your blood
Verse 2: All around, Hope is springing up from this old

Out of chaos life is being found in You
Pre-Chorus: Too much to make sense of it all
I know that Your love breaks my fall
The scandal of grace, You died in my place
So my soul will live

Benediction: (the sending out)
It helps now and then, to step back and take a long view.
The Kingdom is not only beyond your efforts,
it is even beyond our vision.
We accomplish in our lifetime only a fraction
of the magnificent enterprise that is God’s work.
We cannot do everything, and there is a sense of
liberation in realizing this.
This enables us to do something, and to do it very well.
It may be incomplete, but it is a beginning,
a step along the way, an opportunity for the Lord’s grace to enter
and do the rest.
We may never see the end results, but that is the difference between
the master builder and the worker.
We are workers, not master builders, not messiahs.
We are prophets of a future not our own.
- Bishop Ken Untener’s prayer in memory of Archbishop Oscar Romero, who was martyred for his outspoken advocacy for
the poor.
Remember: On November 2 & 9, we are meeting at RiverTree School, 3733 Vera Cruz Ave. North in Crystal. See you at
RiverTree next week at 10:30am!
