ASM Press News ASM @ Productronica, November 10–13, 2015 Booth A3.377 Technological breakthrough a milestone on the road to the Smart #1 SMT Factory Self-learning ASM ProcessExpert optimizes your SMT production automatically With the ASM ProcessExpert, ASM Assembly Systems is introducing at the Productronica 2015 a key component for optimizing the intelligent SMT factory of the future: the first self-learning expert system for SMT production. It not only measures and controls printing results with exceptional accuracy, but continuously stabilizes and optimizes your printing process. The ASM ProcessExpert consists of the extremely innovative and precise ASM ProcessLens 5D solder paste measurement (SPM) system and the real-time ASM ProcessEngine software with knowledge databases. With special functions like the DFM (Design for Manufacturability) HealthCheck and Fractional Experiments, electronics manufacturers can introduce new products much faster and more effectively than before. During production runs, the ASM ProcessExpert controls the linked DEK screen printers automatically and proactively, delivering more quality, better yields, and more line productivity. Productronica visitors can experience the system in action on ASM’s Quality Flex line (Booth A3.377). The ASM ProcessLens 5D solder paste measurement system employs a significantly improved 3D measurement process based on the moiré phase shift approach used in highend SPI systems in combination with a 2D check of each solder deposit. 8 million micro-mirrors for high-precision measurements Instead of generating the necessary light patterns and directing their precise movements the traditional way with relatively slow piezo technology, the ASM ProcessLens uses a DLP (Digital Light Processing) chip with 8 million individually controlled micro-mirrors. By using 2D processes in addition to its advanced 3D measurement method, the ASM ProcessLens analyzes paste deposits much more quickly, flexibly and accurately than traditional high-end SPI systems. Real-time inspection with big-data technologies The measurement data recorded by the ASM ProcessLens is stored in the databases of the ASM ProcessEngine. Employing big-data technologies, the ASM ProcessEngine performs not only real-time checks of the latest printing results, but recognizes potential improvements by consulting history data and validating the relationships between settings and results. And since it is linked to the DEK screen printers, the ASM ProcessExpert can proactively control, stabilize and optimize printer settings entirely on its own with no manual assists. DFM Health Check: Identifies potentially troublesome layouts As a self-learning expert system, the ASM ProcessExpert opens up new possibilities for electronics manufacturers and is available around the clock, 365 days a year. With its DFM (Design for Manufacturability) HealthCheck function, for example, the ASM ProcessExpert prints boards virtually based on their Gerber data. This provides schedulers with important information about central printing parameters such as stencil type and coating, solder paste type, printing speed, cleaning cycles, toolings, throughput, etc. long before the production starts. In addition, the ASM ProcessExpert highlights stencil layouts that may cause problems during the production run and lists the reasons for its findings in response to a mouse click. NPI: An optimized printing process in just a few minutes The ASM ProcessExpert also provides valuable support during new product introductions. Its Fractional Experiments function initiates a series of a few test prints, during which it varies specific parameters. In just a few minutes it determines all relevant process parameters for the best possible printing process without wasting boards, and the production run can begin. The result: significantly faster NPI process and improved first-yield rates. Autonomous and proactive production run control During production runs, the ASM ProcessExpert takes over and controls the printing process proactively. Unlike conventional SPI systems, it is not tied to rigid, pre-set thresholds and ASM SMT Solutions Global Press Office Susanne Oswald Rupert-Mayer-Strasse 44, D-81379 Munich, Germany Tel: +49 89 20800-26439; Fax: +49 89 20800-24260 E-mail: susanne.oswald@asmpt.com limits. For example, it can increase your line’s productivity without harming the product quality by basing the understencil cleaning cycles on the results of actual print quality measurements. “With the self-learning ASM ProcessExpert, we have achieved a technological breakthrough on the road to the Smart #1 SMT Factory. The potential of this technology is huge,” explains Jérôme Rousval, Product Marketing Manager at ASM Assembly Systems. “The first versions, which focus on the autonomous stabilization, optimization and control of printing processes, will make a huge difference in terms of productivity, flexibility and quality. Future version will extend to other line components like our SIPLACE placement machines. By linking the knowledge databases, multiple expert systems will be able to work as a team and learn from each other across lines and plant locations. Our ongoing development activities bring customers ever closer to the truly intelligent factory.” For more information about the ASM ProcessExpert and other ASM products, visit us at our booth A3.377 at the Productronica solutions.com/productronica2015.
