Trousdale County Schools Focused Lesson Plan 2015-16 Teacher: Canaan Bowman Unit Name: Functions Unit #: 2 Unit Length: 9 weeks Week: 11/2 – 11/6 Week 8 of 9 Subject: Calculus Tennessee State Standard(s) to be taught: (Write the entire standard) N-NE.1 – Use the laws of exponents or logarithms to expand or collect terms in expressions; simplify expressions of modify them in order to analyze them or compare them. F-BF.5 – Find inverse functions (including exponential, logarithmic, and trigonometric). a. Calculate the inverse of a function , f(x), with respect to each of the functional operations; in other words, the additive inverse, -f(x), the multiplicative 1 inverse, , and the inverse with respect to composition, f-1(x). Understand the algebraic and graphical implications of each 𝑓(𝑥) type. b. Verify by composition that one function is the inverse of another. c. Read values of an inverse function from a graph or a table, given that the function has an inverse. d. Recognize a function is invertible only if it is one-to-one. Produce an invertible function from a non-invertible function by restricting the domain. F-IF.2 - Analyze qualities of exponential, polynomial, logarithmic, trigonometric, and rational functions and solve real world problems that can be modeled with these functions (by hand and with appropriate technology). F-IF.3 – Identify or analyze the distinguishing properties of exponential, polynomial, logarithmic, trigonometric, and rational functions from tables, graphs, and equations. I Can Statements : I can find the equation of a function’s inverse. I can identify one-to-one functions. I can identify and describe the properties of exponential functions. I can sketch the graph of an exponential function. I can solve exponential equations using properties of exponents. I can derive the formula for compound interest. I can solve problems involving compound interest. I can use limits to derive the value of “e.” Accommodations for students, both regular and special populations : Extra practice time may be given using InteractMath technology online. One-on-one and/or peer tutoring. Re-take quizzes on which students perform poorly.
