PERFORMANCE DATES:
August 21-24, 27-30 There will be weekday matinees August 27 & 28 at 9:45am.
Rehearsal schedule will be provided at auditions but they generally will be Monday, Tuesday, Thursday 6:45-9:00pm
beginning May 26. There may also be a couple of Saturday dance intensives.
GENERAL INFORMATION:
This is mainly an adult cast with the exception of two children. The minimum age to audition is 15 years old by June 1.
Younger actors may audition for the two child roles. The roles of the children will ideally be cast by actors being small in
stature, 5’ tall or less. Actors auditioning for Mary or Bert MUST NOT be afraid of heights! All actors cast will be
expected to participate in any and all fundraising efforts and at least two set calls. Audition by video submission will be
accepted at the director’s discretion but you must contact me in advance to explain your situation and receive details on

AUDITION SPECIFICATIONS:
1. Vocal Audition

 Accompaniment will be provided
 Vocalization and tonal memory
2. Monologue
 1 minute
 British, Cockney, or Other (see cast of characters)
3. Cold Reads from script
4. General dance audition for everyone
5. Optional additional auditions
 Intermediate to advanced tap dancers
 Advanced tumbling: back handspring, layout, tuck, aerial, etc…
6. A headshot and resume are welcomed but not required.
CAST OF CHARACTERS
Anticipated doubling has been listed but may be changed at the director’s discretion. The first listed role is the primary
role for which you would be auditioning. The listed ages are the stage ages. It does not matter your real age, provided
that you are 15, if you can play the stage age range.
Bert (30s), the narrator of the story, is a good friend to Mary Poppins. An everyman, Bert has many occupations,
including hurdy-gurdy player, sidewalk artist, and chimney sweep. Bert watches over the children as well as the goings
on in Cherry Tree Lane. He has charm, speaks with a cockney accent, and is a song-and-dance man. Tap experience is
not required but highly favorable. Baritone B2-F#4, please prepare Let’s Go Fly a Kite and Chim Chim Cher-ee
George Banks (early 40s), father to Jane and Michael Banks, is a banker. Demanding precision and order in his
household, he is a pipe and slippers man who doesn’t have much to do with his children. His emotional armor, however,
reveals a sensitive soul. George speaks with a proper British accent. Baritone Bb2-Eb4, please prepare Cherry Tree Lane
and Good for Nothing.
Winifred Banks (30s), is George’s wife and Jane and Michael’s mother. A former actress, she is a loving and distracted
homemaker who is busy trying to live up to her husband’s desire to only associate with “the best people” as well as be a
model wife and mother. Winifred speaks with a proper British accent. Mezzo Soprano A3-D5, please prepare Being Mrs.
Banks and Anything Can Happen.
Jane Banks (11), is the high-spirited daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Banks. She is bright and precocious but can be willful and
inclined to snobbishness. Jane speaks with a proper British accent. Tap experience is not required but highly favorable.
Child Soprano A3-F#5, please prepare Perfect Nanny and Let’s Go Fly a Kite.
Michael Banks (9), is the cute and cheeky son of Mr. and Mrs. Banks. Excitable and naughty, he adores his father and
tries to be like him. Both he and Jane misbehave in order to get the attention of their parents. Michael tries to speak
with a proper British accent. Tap experience is not required but highly favorable. Male child voice, unchanged A3-E5,
please prepare Perfect Nanny and Let’s Go Fly a Kite.
Mrs. Corry (40s)/Katie Nanna (30s) Mrs. Corry owns a magical gingerbread shop. She is a mysterious woman who
speaks with a Caribbean accent (or any exotic sounding accent). Soprano D4-G5, please prepare
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. (Katie Nanna is Jane and Michael’s nanny at the beginning of the show.)
John Northbrook (30s-40s)/Policeman: John Northbrook is an honest businessman seeking a loan to build a factory for
his community. He speaks with an accent from Northern England. Baritone, please prepare Precision and Order.
Miss Lark (30s)/Doll: Miss Lark is the haughty next-door neighbor of the Banks family who treats her dog as if he were
her child. Mezzo-Soprano, please prepare Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. (Doll is a toy belonging to the Banks
children.)
Admiral Boom (50s)/Bank Chairman(50s): Admiral Boom is a retired Navy man and neighbor of the Banks family. He
has a large and booming voice (British), he speaks in Navy jargon and has a soft spot for Miss Lark. Baritone please
prepare Precision and Order.
Mrs. Brill (50s), is the housekeeper and cook for the Banks family. Overworked and harassed, she’s always complaining
that the house in understaffed. Her intimidating exterior is a cover for the warmth underneath. Mrs. Brill doesn’t have
a high opinion of nannies in general and Mary Poppins in particular. She speaks with a cockney accent. She does not
have to be a strong singer. Alto F#3-D#5, please prepare Cherry Tree Lane.
Robertson Ay (20-30) is the houseboy to the Banks family. Lazy, sleepy, and grumbling, he never gets things right and
believes himself to be useless. He speaks with a cockney accent. Tenor F3-G#4, please prepare Cherry Tree Lane.
Mary Poppins (20s-30s) is Jane and Michael Banks’ new nanny. She is extraordinary and strange, neat and tidy,
delightfully vain yet very particular, and sometimes a little frightening but always exciting. She is practically perfect in
every way and always means what she says. A mezzo soprano with strong top notes, she should be able to move well.
She can have a more traditional soprano sound, but precision and diction is key. She speaks with a proper British accent.
Tap experience is not required but highly favorable. Mezzo Soprano Gb3-C6, please prepare Practically Perfect.
Von Hussler (30s-40s)/Park Keeper: Von Hussler is a businessman seeking a loan from the bank for a shady business
deal. He speaks with a German accent. (Park keeper speaks with a cockney accent.) Please prepare A Man has Dreams.
Neleus (16-20) is that statue of a young boy posed with a dolphin in the park. Neleus was separated from his father,
Poseidon, and misses him very much. A small and lonely being, he is very happy to befriend Jane and Michael. A strong
dancer and/or tumbler is highly favorable. Please prepare Jolly Holiday.
Bird Woman (50s)/Queen Victoria: The Bird Woman is covered in a patchwork of old shawls, and her pockets are stuffed
with bags of crumbs for the birds. She tries to sell her crumbs to passersby, who ignore her as if she doesn’t exist. No
monologue is required for this role. Alto, please prepare Feed the Birds. (Queen Victoria is a statue in the park.)
Miss Andrew (40s-50s)/Ms. Smythe: Miss Andrew is George’s overbearing and scary boyhood nanny. With her bottle of
nasty tasting brimstone and treacle to keep naughty children in line, she is a bully who only knows her way of doing
things. Soprano with alto belt Gb3-F5, please prepare Brimstone and Treacle. (Ms. Smythe is the Bank Chairman’s
secretary.)
Annie (20s)/Ensemble: is the daughter of Mrs. Corry. No monologue is required for this role. Please prepare
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.
Frannie (20s)/Ensemble: is the daughter of Mrs. Corry. No monologue is required for this role. Please prepare
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.
Valentine/Ensemble: a stuffed boy doll belonging to Jane. Baritone A2-D3, please prepare
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.
Teddy Bear/Ensemble : A toy belonging to Jane and Michael. No monologue is required for this role. Please prepare
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.
Mr. Punch/Ensemble: A toy belonging to Jane and Michael. No monologue is required for this role. Please prepare
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.
Ensemble roles include park goers, servants, statues, sweeps, customers, clerks, etc…no monologue required.
