SME Business Excellence Awards 2015

Need for the Awards Initiative

India has had a long tradition of entrepreneurship and the Indian entrepreneurs have contributed immensely to the country’s economic progress and international standing. These MSMEs are critical to the growth of Indian economy. Incidentally, this is also reflected in the fact that the MSME sector contributes to around 40% of the manufacturing output. (Source: Ministry of MSME). In accordance with its importance, the Indian Government has undertaken multiple initiatives to support the small-scale sector.

Even as the importance of the SME sector is widely acknowledged, there is also the realization that the sector can grow even faster with enhancements in marketing, finance, skills development and technology. Further, there is a need to highlight the success stories of high-performing SMEs, such that it acts as a source of motivation for new entrepreneurs.

With this objective in mind, The Karur Vysya Bank Ltd and Dun & Bradstreet have joined for this awards initiative that will recognize and felicitate SMEs that have demonstrated exemplary performance in their respective fields. The awards are titled “Karur Vysya Bank – Dun & Bradstreet SME Business

Excellence Awards 2015”.

About the SME Business Excellence Awards 2015

SME Business Excellence Awards 2015” is a platform for showcasing the success stories of high-performing Indian SMEs. The objective of the awards would be to encourage the culture of excellence and transparency among SMEs. The awards are open to all SMEs in manufacturing and services sectors with basic qualification criteria. The awards will be presented to the winners at the hands of senior government officials in a grand ceremony to be held in November

2015.

The programme covers three broad segments of awards:

1) Small & Medium Enterprises (SMEs),

2) Mid-Corporate segment and

3) Theme-based (Special) awards

The awards programme will serve as a motivational point for aspiring entrepreneurs as well as established SMEs to pursue excellence and make the country proud. The awards will showcase the achievements of the winners on a wide national platform, as well as lend them global credibility through Dun &

Bradstreet’s worldwide network.

We are seeking active participation from SMEs across the country. We recognize the efforts put in by entrepreneurs in making their businesses successful. This initiative is to applaud these efforts and to enable the entrepreneurs to tell their success story to the world.

Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for each of the three segments of awards are as below:

SME Segment Awards:

Companies that fulfill the criteria for small and medium enterprises as defined by the MSMED Act, 2006 will be considered under this segment. Accordingly, the below criteria apply for this segment:

Manufacturing Enterprises Services Enterprises

Classification Investment limit in Plant & Machinery Investment limit in Equipment

Small More than Rs 25 lakhs but less than Rs 5 crore More than Rs 10 lakhs but less than Rs 2 crore

Medium More than Rs 5 crore but less than Rs 10 crore More than Rs 2 crore but less than Rs 5 crore

SME segment awards will cover businesses that meet the above criteria for small OR medium size in manufacturing and services respectively. Micro enterprises are not covered under these SME Awards.

Mid-Corporate Segment Awards:

Businesses (in manufacturing / services sector) that exceed the investment threshold of SME, as defined above and whose turnover is NOT more than Rs 500 crore for FY15 will be eligible under this segment.

Theme-based (Special) Awards:

It is increasingly recognized that there should be no boundaries to entrepreneurship, and participation from all sections of society should be encouraged. In keeping with this spirit, the SME Business Excellence Awards will honor exceptional performance in the following categories: a) Entrepreneurial Spirit Award – Woman b) Emerging Entrepreneur c) Best Global SME

Businesses with a turnover of less than Rs 500 crore for FY15 are eligible for the above awards. For further details on these theme-based awards, please email us at smeawards@dnbindia.in

How to Apply for the Awards:

You could nominate your business for the SME Business Excellence Awards 2015 through a very simple process. Kindly fill the nomination form and send it to us by October 27 2015.
