Important Person of Louisiana
4th 6 Weeks Project
All students will be required to complete an Important Person of Louisiana Project This project will be worth a major part of
your grade. Students are responsible for their own work but may receive help from parents, other students, teachers, etc.
The project must be completed and turned in by the final due date.
The Project will consist of the following:






Research of Person
Bubble Map or Circle Map
PowerPoint
Classroom Presentation
Essay
Artifact (3 bonus points)
The entire project can be presented in a portfolio format. All written parts of the project can be typed for extra points, but
students who do not have access to a printer will not be penalized. Typed work must be in Times New Roman or Arial font,
no larger than size 12 font, double spaced only. Please print your work in either blue or black ink. Students who do not have
printer access may hand-write their work neatly on loose leaf paper in blue or black ink ONLY. Work must be neat and free of
grammatical errors.

 The purpose for coming to Louisiana
 Contributions to Louisiana
 What was happening in the United States at the time this person was in Louisiana
 3 important facts about this person

Bubble Map or Circle Map (5 points)
 List the facts from the research into a bubble map or Circle Map

Essay: (12 points)
 Write a well organized and grammatically correct essay about your person.
 Include all components of research
 Essays should be a minimum of 5 paragraphs.
 All essays must contain the following:
a. Proper PJHS Heading
b. Title
c. Introductory Paragraph

Body of Paper must be a minimum of 3 paragraphs, explaining why your person is important
(example: contributions, responsibilities.)
e. Conclusion Paragraph
Essays must be either typed or hand-written in blue or black ink only.
Indent between paragraphs, but DO NOT SKIP LINES between paragraphs.
Do not include pictures or photographs in your essay.
Your conclusion should tie together the whole essay. Add what you would have done differently if you were
the person

PowerPoint: (53 points)
 You will create a PowerPoint based on your research. Complete all slides in the Template
 You may add or format your PowerPoint any way you wish, but all information must be present in the
presentation and it must flow
Classroom Presentation : (5 points)
 This is a mandatory part of your Unit Project.
 Students must create a 2-3 minute presentation to present to the class about his/her person.
 Make sure you know your information and are not reading from the slides.
GRADING CRITERIA/SCORING RUBRIC
This assignment is worth a total of 160 points (see attached rubric). You will be graded on neatness & organization of project,
completing all colony requirements, writing a persuasive colony essay, a model of the colony, and your presentation.
Note: If you do not bring the rubric on your day of presenting, 5 points will be deducted from your overall grade.
