The subject or discipline is indicated by the color of the hood’s trimming for master’s degree, juris doctor, and doctor of medicine candidates and by the color of the tassel on the mortar board for bachelor’s degree recipients. A few of today’s doctoral candidates may be wearing the specially designed University of Hawai‘i doctoral gown. Members of the audience are asked to remain in their seats while photographing individual candidates and to remain in their places until the end of the recessional. Friends and family members may greet graduates near the appropriate alphabetical signs at the Clarence T. C. Ching Complex (A-N) and the Les Murakami Stadium (O -Z). Please observe the “No Smoking” regulation while on the fields. A color photograph is taken as each graduate receives a diploma cover. A proof will be sent by e-mail to graduates.
