Programs that involve alumni, faculty, and staff in hands‐on planning or active
participation

Community Engagement
Programs that establish new or deeper connections between MIT and off‐site
constituencies
Example: MAES Science Extravaganza
Career Development (Professional/Scholar)
Includes workshops, conferences, and colloquia; venues must be open to the MIT
community.
Example: NSBE Annual Convention
Leading Outward
Based on the "leading upward" model, these programs train participants in diversity
and inclusion leadership skills for later dissemination to the MIT community; ideally
involve faculty and staff.
Example: SHPE National Institute for Leadership Advancement Conference
Expanding Outlooks (Social/Political/Cultural)
Includes recruitment programs, new forums, and arts‐oriented projects
Example: Black Week

Program Alignment with CRD Mission and Impact on Diversity and Inclusion

grants program is designed to support programs and activities that promote
multicultural understanding and positive race relations within the MIT community.
