This is an annual scholarship established by the children of Lambert & Marion Podany as a tribute to them for the hard work and sacrifices they made to provide an education for their family. Lambert served his country from 1945 to 1947 when he joined the U.S. Army, serving in
Japan. He was a farmer and worked his entire life farming his land east of Petersburg, Nebraska.
Lambert was an excellent mechanic and a life long learner. Marion was a homemaker and an active partner helping on the farm. They appreciated music and understood the value of an education, with all eight of their children graduating from Pope John XXIII CCHS and all have gone on to earn advanced degrees.
Criteria:
1. The annual award shall be given to a graduating senior of Pope John XXIII
Central Catholic High School in Elgin, Nebraska, who plans to attend a four-year college, university, community college or technical school on a full-time basis.
Applicants must attach a letter of acceptance to this application, from the school they plan to attend.
2. Preference will be given to applicants active in their church, school and community and to applicants coming from a rural background and/or majoring in a field of ag-business, science, diesel or auto mechanics, or music.
3. Additional selection criteria will include the student’s scholastic record. The recipient of this award does not necessarily have to rank in the upper 50% of his graduating class; however the applicant should have the qualifications necessary for success in college. Applicants must attach a copy of their high school transcript.

In addition, the applicant’s financial need will be considered. Any information included with this application will be held in strict confidence.
The selection committee will consist of the Pope John High School Guidance counselor and the family of Lambert Podany.

The scholarship will be awarded at the Awards Banquet held at the end of the year. The scholarship check will be issued in August.
