Introduction
Monroe City Schools is committed to the promotion of professional learning and encourages lifelong
learning and professional growth for all employees. Professional development is designed to align best
practices with classroom instruction and to build capacity for effective, research-based, content-focused
teaching and learning that positively impacts student achievement. The sessions in this catalog have
been developed and are facilitated by MCS department/division personnel and approved
contractors/vendors. Schools are encouraged to use this catalog to plan and coordinate professional
development sessions that are aligned with district learning goals, school improvement goals, and
district/state/federal requirements.
District personnel will be issued Continuing Learning Units (CLUs) for completing professional learning
activities. A CLU quantifies an educator’s participation in high quality professional development aligned
with an educator’s individual professional growth plan. Educators may earn one CLU for each hour of
active engagement in high quality professional development.
The district uses CourseWhere, a professional development management system, for online registration
and evaluation. The system maintains a record of attendance for all courses, conferences, seminars,
workshops, or any training-related services offered by the district. CLUs are issued by the system when
the participants have completed the evaluations and attendance has been verified and marked by the
instructor. If questions arise concerning CLUs for an activity, the instructor should be contacted.
PD 360
In addition to the professional development opportunities listed in the catalog, the district provides PD
360, an online, on-demand library of professional development resources that makes professional
learning more effective, convenient, and sustainable. With over 250 hours of research-based strategies,
expert opinion and real classroom examples, PD 360 allows district personnel to access individualized
support on relevant topics such as differentiation, minority student achievement, common core
standards, classroom instruction that works, leadership, assessment, and more. PD 360’s content can be
accessed 24/7 from multiple devices and is divided into hundreds of indexed and searchable segments
that make it easy for teachers, administrators, paraprofessionals, and professional learning communities
to find the information and strategies needed to improve teaching and learning. CLUs will also be issued
for PD 360 activities and resources.
