Learn and Work Scholarship 2012 Sheridan Lutheran - Lincoln Journal Star - HiMark Golf Course Criteria Considered for High School Seniors or existing College Students: Demonstrated Financial Need Special consideration given to students demonstrating an ability to overcome personal challenges and obstacles in the pursuit of educational goals Academic excellence during High School or College Two or four year college candidates considered Special consideration is given to candidates from southeast Nebraska, and those planning on attending school in southeast Nebraska. Demonstrated Spirituality Willingness for Service –75 hours of documented community service is required. This may be fulfilled in summer or during the academic year. Denominational affiliation of Scholarship Applicant need not be Lutheran Frequency of Grants and other Activities: Prior to June 1, 2012 the Learn and Work Scholarship Board will award up to six scholarships to qualified high school seniors or existing college students Each Scholarship award winner will receive $4,000 paid directly to the accredited four or two-year college of their choice Scholarship monies are paid directly to college admissions department of the school identified by the Scholarship recipient, into the student’s account for tuition Distribution of monies for Learn and Work Scholarship is in two payments – one-half of the total each semester Potential exists for annual renewal of $4,000 scholarship for award winners who re-apply and demonstrate academic and personal excellence while attending college Scholarship Winners will be required to supply a picture which will be displayed in a ½ page advertisement in the Lincoln Journal Star. General Information: Other minimum requirements for qualified candidates are as follows: Upper-third of graduation class with strong performances in SAT and/or ACT tests Attendance at post-secondary institution full-time during the next academic year Completion of the attached scholarship application Applicant and parent/legal guardian (if applicable) must read and sign the application To be eligible, students must have applied and been accepted or currently enrolled with an accredited college Grants will be awarded based on financial need following the standard definition of need: (parental income, student income, assets and family size, as well as expenses for tuition, room and board, as well as existing loans for College expenses). Letters of recommendation by three people who know the applicant well, from school, church, extracurricular activity or member of the community must be supplied with scholarship application Applications will be accepted through May 1, 2012.
