Around The Circuit I would like to start my column with the sad news another great lady of darts passed away on Sunday 26th October 2014. Vi Alderman was a stalwart of the BDO and the WDO you could not have asked to have known such a very fine lady, both her and Dave were a wonderful couple and I for one can say it was a pleasure knowing you Vi, you are now at peace and with the angels you will be sorely missed, so R.I.P. Vi such a sad loss to our darting community. Our thoughts are with Dave and the rest of his family at this sad time. County Durham made the long journey to Worcester Park for the third game of the county season and went away with the spoils winning 21-15. Both the Ladies teams came away with good draws, with Sarah Emsley, Angie Frewin winning for the B team along with our Lady of the Match, Marie Barthrop, who thoroughly deserved her match award. There were wins in the Ladies A for Sue Shefford, Tania Blake and our lady of the match once again with a superb 25.05 average was Tricia Wright who also picked up the £50. Darryl Pilgrim picked up our best performance award in the Men's B with a 24.45 and there was also wins for Andy Bridgman, Simon Beagle and Neville Wright in an 8-4 defeat. The Men's A started superbly winning the first three games but eventually went down to a 7-5 defeat. Our man of the match with a 26.59 was Steve Lovett with wins coming for Ben Burton, Gary Creamer, Paul Wenham and Nigel Prior. Congratulations to Kurtis Atkins, who at the tender age of 21 reached his 50th appearance for the county such a superb achievement from this young man well done. Our next game we are at home once again at Worcester Park against the County of Dorset, so come on the Surrey squad lets all regroup and get back on the winning trail. On Friday 26th September, at St Peters Social Club, we held a Macmillan cake and coffee night, (Alcohol was consumed) as this event was held on a Ladies super league night. Thanks to the Higginson, Munt, Tyne clan for all their help, which was baking and selling the cakes also Marie Barthrop and Sue Donald who also baked cakes, without the help from these ladies the event would not have worked, in total we raised £250 and that all goes to the Macmillan nurses. Thanks to those that turned up just for the event Lorraine George Oliver and Samuel Powell, most of us owe a lot to Macmillan and I am so pleased we held this event. Thanks everyone once again for those that I have not mentioned you all know who you are. On October 24th we held a charity exhibition night at St Peters we had Wayne Mardle & Eric Bristow MBE and our charity event was for small steps in case you haven’t heard of this charity then please go to www.smallsteps.org.uk and see what it is all about. Our MC for the evening was our very own Ashley Holgate who did all the calling of the games on his own and we really appreciated that he was second to none and I can honestly say he is one of the best callers that I know, thanks Ash. I would like to thank some of the top men and lady players for donating shirts and darts and merchandise for this event. Thanks to England Captain Trina Gulliver MBE, Scotland Captain Ross(the Boss)Montgomery, Welsh ladies Captain Julie Gore, Robbie (Kong)Green, Brian (Pecker) Woods) Adrian (Jackpot) Lewis, Alan Warriner- Little, Scott Mitchell, Martin Atkins, our very own Little Richard Ashdown, there are far too many to mention but I would like to thank England International Tricia Wright for donating her 2009 England International Shirt which at the moment the current Bid is £150 we are leaving this auction bid open until Christmas and the highest bidder will receive the shirt personally signed by Tricia so if anyone interested in putting in a bid please contact Tricia on Twdarts@aol.com the proceeds will be going to Small Steps charity. Lastly thanks to Tom Newble, Lisa Munt, Geoff Frith & Sue Donald for all their hard work in getting this charity exhibition event on the road. May I also say it was a pleasure to meet up again with Wayne, what a great Dart exhibitionist he is and such a credit to his sport. Wayne had us laughing the whole night and he even took part in selling some of the auction items which included Tricia Wrights darts that she had just played with when she beat Wayne, however thanks Wayne, well done to all the players who played Eric and Wayne I am sure it was an eventful evening for everyone. Another good weekend at Hayling Island, (even though I was ill) however still enjoyed the weekend. A well run tournament a quality field of players from the under 14s the youth and seniors.
