COURSE AIMS
To provide specific knowledge on biological, agronomic and cultural practices
as well as on productivity and quality traits of the most important temperate zone
fruit species.
COURSE CONTENT
Classifications of fruit tree species in relation to botanical,
marketable, ecological parameters. World and National production.
Fruit cultivation as an industry
Pome fruits: taxonomy, vegetative and reproductive traits, ecological
needs, plants for plantation, rootstocks, training systems disposal
and tree distance, cultural practices, horticulture harvest index,
harvest and storage, cultivars, industry specifications, commercial
fruit standards of apple, pear and quince
Stone fruits: taxonomy, vegetative and reproductive traits, ecological
needs, plants for plantation, rootstocks, training systems disposal
and tree distance, cultural practices, horticulture harvest index,
harvest and storage, cultivars, industry specifications, commercial
fruit standards of peach and cherry
Small fruit: taxonomy, vegetative and reproductive traits, ecological
needs, plants for plantation, training systems disposal and tree
distance, cultural practices, horticulture harvest index, harvest and
storage, cultivars, industry specifications, commercial fruit standards
of brambles. Basic knowledge on Ribes and Vaccinium
Tree nuts: taxonomy, vegetative and reproductive traits, ecological
needs, plants for plantation, training systems disposal and tree
distance, cultural practices, horticulture harvest index, harvest and
storage, cultivars, industry specifications, commercial fruit standards
of hazelnut.
