INTERNATIONAL STUDY TOUR TO REGGIO EMILIA, ITALY
14 - 19 April 2013
Dear Interested Reggio Participant,
This year Reggio Emilia Provocations have been asked to organise a delegation from New Zealand to
visit Italy and see firsthand the Reggio Philosophy and Educational Approach in practice in their
Preschools and Infant Toddler Centres. Sue Stevely-Cole has entrusted us with this tour as she has
been the tour leader since 1995. This is truly a wonderful experience and should not be missed for
those who believe in the “Rights of the Child”.
Tour Dates
The dates for this Study Tour are from the 14 – 19 April 2013. This would require us to leave New
Zealand on approximately 12 April, returning on the 22 April. We will organise a group booking for
those who wish to travel together (has to be a minimum of 15 people), but we are happy for you to
make your own travel arrangements if this suits you better.
Programme
A typical Study Tour Programme starts with a Sunday encounter with a visit to the town of Reggio
Emilia, led by the Friends of Reggio Children, to a wonderful farewell dinner in perhaps one of the
many beautiful and historical settings, five days later. There is always an element of surprise as the
week unfolds with a mixture of presentations to provoke your thinking and challenge your practice,
visits to the Infant and Toddler centres and Preschools as well as the REIMDA Centre which is full of
recycled resources.
The Italians are very open and willing to share their journey. There is always something to be
discovered, something to challenge your thinking, something to be emotional about, as you weave
your way through the week of encounters, provocations and dialogues.
Flights
We have arranged through a travel agent a group discount, but need to have at least 15 people
flying with us to get this. Total cost is approx. $ 2,850.00 including taxes. At this stage the likely
departure will be around 12 April 2013 but this is subject to confirmation. Flights land in Milan and
transfers are arranged to Reggio Emilia. We will provide further information on these options
shortly.

Accommodation
We have arranged accommodation in a modern four-star hotel called Europa, which is within an easy
10 minutes walk of the main venue, the International Centre Loris Malaguzzi. It is also less than 500
meters from the historical centre of Reggio Emilia and options include a share twin, a single room or
triple room configuration.
Costs
The Study Tour includes accommodation in Reggio Emilia, transfers and course costs. The costs are
based on staying for 7 nights. All prices are in NZ dollars.





The total cost is NZ$3,650.00 per person, based on share twin room.
The total cost is NZ$4050.00 per person, based on a single room.
A deposit of NZ$750.00 per person is required immediately.
Payment for Accompanying Person(s)
The cost for accompanying persons not attending the course is NZ$1173.00. A deposit of
NZ$500.00 per person is required immediately.

Optional Tour Available
At the completion of the Study Tour, participants may wish to travel to other cities in Italy. A 6 day
tour has been planned with two nights in Venice, two nights in Florence and two - three nights in
Rome. We would then fly out of Rome. Costs for this are still being arranged.

Please indicate on the Booking Form whether you require a share twin, a single or triple
room. If you wish to share a twin room or triple room please specify with whom you would
like to share. There are additional costs if you wish to have a single room.
c. Accompanying Person(s)
Partners or friends can accompany you to Italy and if you wish, share accommodation. If you
will have an accompanying person(s), please include details on the Booking Form.
d. Your Early Childhood Experience
The Course Organizers in Italy would like to be sent a profile from everyone attending the
Study Tour. To assist me, could you write a short paragraph about yourself and email it to

Receipts will be issued upon receipt of payments.
Cancellation Terms
The following cancellation criteria stands so please make yourself fully aware of this: All deposits are refundable in full up to the 15 December
Cancellation after the 30 January, 75% of amount paid.
Cancellation after the 28 February, no refund.
Exchange rate
All costs are based on the exchange rate as of the 24 September and are subject to change until paid
in full.
Travel Insurance
Travel insurance is a mandatory requirement of joining this study tour. Confirmation of insurance is
to be provided with your final payment.

Regular updates will be provided along with a guide on travel tips and a meeting with participants
prior to us leaving.
