Three follow-up phone calls were made to recipients who did not respond by mail. Recipients May 2011 undergraduate degree recipients were identified in a report prepared and presented by the Registrar’s office. A total of forty names were provided. Getting my bachelors was a waste of time and money because there are no jobs Spreadsheets Accompanying this report are spreadsheets detailing findings for all recipients identified as “2011 Undergraduate Degree Report” and a breakdown by degree identified as “2011 Undergraduate Degree Report by Degree”. 3 Benchmark In an effort to establish a national benchmark I searched the Associated Press web site for an applicable report and was able to locate an article released for publication on April 23, 2012 written by Hope Yen, Associated Press, entitled “1 in 2 new graduates are jobless or underemployed”. He reported the following statistics based on an analysis of government data conducted for the Associated Press. “About 1.5 million, or 53.6%, of bachelor’s degree-holders under the age of 25 last year were jobless or underemployed, the highest share in the last 11 years. In 2000, the share was at a low of 41 percent, before the dot-com bust erased job gains for college undergraduates in the telecommunications and IT fields.” College of Saint Joseph (CSJ) responding graduates reported only 28.6% are unemployed or underemployed. This is very good news when the national average is 53.5% or 68% higher than that reported by responding CSJ graduates Mr. Yen’s article accompanies this report. #####30##### 4
