Disability Services Center A Center for Learning and Accessibility Tutor/Test Proctor Evening Supervisor Job Description Payroll Title: Graduate Student Assistant Researcher I Name of Supervisor: Lori Palmerton, Assistant Director Supervisor’s Phone: (949) 824-7494 Work Location: Disability Services Center – Building 313 on Ring Road Flexible Work Hours: Monday-Thursdays, 4:30-10:00 pm (approx. 20 hours per week) Summary of Duties Under the direction of the Assistant Director of the Disability Services Center (DSC), the Tutor/Test Proctor Evening Supervisor oversees all functions of DSC from 5:00 pm to closing. Duties include the supervision of test proctoring and student staff. Provides individual or small group tutoring for students who have been referred by Disability Specialists. Ensures student staff completes transportation duties for students who utilize Ring Road Rides (Golf cart transportation program for individuals with permanent or temporary disabilities). Qualifications Completion of first year or equivalent, of graduate study Relevant field study (e.g., counseling, public administration, psychology and social behavior, social sciences, education) Undergraduate co-curricular leadership or paraprofessional experiences Commitment to working with diverse populations Flexibility to work evenings (Monday – Thursday, 4:30 pm – 10:00 pm) Desired Evidence of and appreciation for the value, role and purpose of a disability services center in higher education Demonstrated communication skills, written and oral, as well as, effective interpersonal skills Possesses a command of tutoring skills in areas such as UC Irvine general education courses, Time Management, Self Advocacy and Study Skills and in program preparation including budget, and assessment and evaluation Ability to handle and complete several on-going projects in a work environment characterized by frequent interruptions Knowledge of UC Irvine Student Code of Conduct, Academic Honesty and University Policy Essential Functions Percent of Time: 50% Direct Student Services Supervises front office reception, evening drivers and student assistant staff. A critical function is integrating the reception and service activities in the front office in order to achieve the most effective use of student employees and the timely delivery, administration and return of tests and exams and all assigned Ring Road Rides. Addresses concerns or issues presented by student test takers (i.e. typing error, mistake or question about exam instructions, confusion or frustration) and contacts Assistant Director if necessary. Provides general information about the Disability Services Center and campus requirements for disability accommodations, and determines who in office or elsewhere on campus to refer students or visitors. Provides individual and/or small group tutoring/instruction to students registered with the Center in areas such as time management, self-advocacy and study skills as well as undergraduate general education courses. Conducts special projects and other office and outreach activities. Demonstrate a working knowledge of units on campus that are used frequently as referral services for students. These may include but are not limited to the following: University Ombudsman, Counseling Center, Career Center, LARC, Placement/Testing Office, SOAR, LGBT Resource Center and Cross Cultural Center. Percent of Time: 50% Administrative Assists in the implementation of evening test proctoring. Oversees strict confidentiality and security of all exams and confidential information. Communicates with faculty or teaching assistants regarding the administration of course tests and exams. Applies University procedures, policies, and external requirements related to disability accommodations, maintains confidential student records. Utilizes camera surveillance and sound masking during test proctoring. Ensures that all scheduled Ring Road Rides are completed and golf carts are returned and secured for the evening. Completes and produces reports or data about services or accommodations. Utilizes computers to manage data, complete reports, and disseminate correspondence
