The Caspian Arts Foundation Scholarship
The Caspian Arts Foundation Scholarship aims to promote postgraduate studies at University
of the Arts London to Afghan students with the ability and potential to make an exceptional
contribution to their industry or chosen field of study.
The Caspian Arts Foundation Scholarship is offered in partnership with Culture+Conflict and
funded by the Stanley Thomas Johnson Foundation.
The scholarship is worth £25,000 and will cover full tuition fees plus a contribution towards
living costs for one International student ordinarily resident in Afghanistan.
The Scholarship will be awarded according to financial need and academic merit.
Eligibility for the Caspian Arts Foundation Scholarship
Applicants must be:
 An International student ordinarily resident in Afghanistan.
AND
 Have been accepted full-time on any of the following courses at University of the Arts
London:
o
Central Saint Martins: MA Fine Art OR MA Photography OR MRes Moving Image
o
Chelsea College of Arts: MA Fine Art OR MA Curating
o
London College of Communication: MA Photography
o
Wimbledon College of Arts: MA Drawing OR MA Painting OR MFA Fine Art

The Assessment Procedure for Applications
Applications will be initially assessed and shortlisted by an Assessment Panel based on
academic merit and creative excellence. Further evidence may be requested at a later date.
Applications shortlisted as a result of the above process will then be forwarded onto a
Selection Panel. The Panel will make their final selections by marking the quality of
application and the preparedness for high quality study in the discipline area, and the
articulation of how the Caspian Arts Foundation Scholarship will contribute to the applicant’s
postgraduate studies.
The panel’s judgment is final and no correspondence whatsoever will be entered into over
the decision that has been made.
Terms of the Caspian Arts Foundation Scholarship
The fund will cover full tuition fees which will be paid directly from the award to the
University’s Tuition Fees account. In addition to this, the selected scholar will receive a
contribution towards living costs.
Applicants must already be enrolled on their final year of the MA course in the same
academic year for which they have applied for funding.
The Caspian Arts Foundation Scholarship holder will be expected to attend all timetabled
classes and tutorials, excepting periods of absence due to illness. Any student with an
unacceptable attendance record may risk the termination of their Scholarship.
Scholarship recipients are expected to attend a small number of College and University events
promoting scholarship support to potential donors, and to meet with scholarship supporters at
these events, during and wherever convenient after completing their course.
The college reserves the right to terminate the award if registration lapses on any grounds,
other than temporary suspension of study due to extenuating circumstances, which must be
drawn to the attention of the relevant course director at the college through formal procedures
and upheld by the college’s Extenuating Circumstances Panel.
Applying for the Caspian Arts Foundation Scholarship
Applications must be made online. You will need to fill in an online application.
In addition to the online application form, you will need to send the following supplementary
material:
1. An electronic portfolio sent via dropbox (information on how to use dropbox available
below) to scholarshipapplications@arts.ac.uk containing 1 PDF document which must
include:
o
title page with your name and course title
o
introductory page of no more than 500words explaining your work
o
Up to 15 pages or less each piece / image / publication clearly labelled showing

title of piece / image / publication (if relevant)

date of design / publication
- your portfolio should be an example of what you consider to be your best
work for the Selection Panel to review.

Last three months bank statements
Evidence of financial need
Evidence of medical condition (where appropriate)

Go to www.dropbox.com and create an account
Login to your account using your user name and password

Create a new folder by selecting this icon
in the top right hand corner just before the
search box. Be sure to use your full name as the name of the folder

Open the folder and upload your portfolio into this folder by clicking on this icon
in the
top right hand corner just before the search box. This takes you to your desktop to select
your file(s)
Once your file(s) are uploaded in the folder, right click on the folder and select the option
share link
In the dialogue box, enter the address scholarshipapplications@arts.ac.uk
Please include your name and the scholarship you are applying for in the message
box before sending.



Closing Date
All applications must be received by 1pm, Friday 5th of June 2015. There is only one closing
date for all applications each year.
We are unable to accept applications that arrive late. Incomplete applications will not be
accepted.
Informing applicants of the final decision
All applicants will be informed of the final decision via email.
