I wish them all a speedy recovery and a ‘thank you’ to parents and carers who kept their children at home until they were fully recovered. This week the Devonport Campus welcomes Caitlin Parsons, a Grade 10 student enrolled at Leighlands who is undertaking one week’s work experience in the Blue Room. Caitlin presents as an energetic and willing helper who really shows an interest in working with students with severe disabilities. Thank you for your contribution this week. Animal Disco Reminder – the Whole School Disco will be held at the Glee Club Hall in East Devonport on Wednesday, 10 August commencing at 11:00 am. Parents and carers are invited to come and share in the fun. Theme: Animals. This is an opportunity for staff and students to dress up. All students and staff will need to bring their own lunch, which will be eaten at the conclusion of the disco. Yours in partnership, Grace National Cerebral Palsy Awareness Week (CP Week) is celebrated annually to recognise the achievements of people with cerebral palsy and to create greater awareness, understanding and acceptance. This year it will be held from Sunday 31 July to 6 August 2011. Through CP Week it is our goal to work to make our community more inclusive, more accessible and more welcoming for people living with Cerebral Palsy. This year Cerebral Palsy Australia are highlighting the need for our communities to focus on seeing people with cerebral palsy firstly just as people, and to work together to achieve full social inclusion. “National Cerebral Palsy Awareness Week highlights that with the right support people with Cerebral Palsy can and do reach their potential, despite the economic, physical and attitudinal barriers often faced,” said Diana Heggie, President, Cerebral Palsy Australia.
