I am so pleased with how well everyone has adjusted to a new school year especially our new JK friends. We were so fortunate to have gained an additional junior class which has helped make our classes more reasonably sized. A big welcome to Mr. Kevin Forneri who will be teaching the new grade 4/5 class starting Monday, October 5. Our junior students have received notices of new placements and have been very positive about the transition. Thank you to all of our junior students and parents for assisting with this transition. October will be another busy month here at Lakewood as our junior and intermediate soccer teams head off to their tournaments and our cross country team completes in their county meet along with all of the great classroom activities all of our students participate in. Lakewood will be supporting the Food Bank this year with a drop off box available in the foyer from October 1-5. The Norfolk Rotoracts will be collecting the food and delivering it on our behalf. Please feel free to bring in non-perishable food donations during that time. The Art with HEART and Norfolk Rotaract are teaming up to bring you Port Dovers Second Annual TRICK OR TREAT SO OTHERS CAN EAT! This event will help stock the shelves at Port Dovers Food Bank for Thanksgiving! Here's how it will work; They will be meeting out front of Lakewood Elementary at 5pm. Kids, you are asked to dress up like its Halloween and go trick or treating for canned goods! Once again, I would like to thank all of our Lakewood families for your continued support of our students, school and community. Check out our new website! www.granderie.ca/schools/ Lakewood/ In light of the current state of job action, we have postponed our Meet the Teacher/TeacherParent event until further notice. We value our connections with parents and families. Teachers will continue to meet with parents where appropriate. Parents can contact teachers directly to arrange an appointment. Lakewood Parent Group: Thank you all for the great turn out for our first Parent Committee meeting of 2015! Our next one is Monday, Oct. 5th from 6-8 in the (cafeteria/library) Babysitting provided free of charge but please RSVP to Melissa at kmmummery@sympatico.ca.
