MATTERS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES OF LAST MEETING N/A – first meeting of the year 5. 5.1 Allocation of positions no official position or topics - those who are passionate about topics may contribute, but otherwise the co-chairs direct Secretary was given to Vivien Stewart (Peninsula) Lee Walker (Deakin) volunteered as the creative expert 5.2 Committee Actions for 2014 Goal is 1 Major event/promotion in each Semester Ideas included: Dining in the dark RACISM program - creating a sticker for the back on the toilet door, depends on whether it is allowed Random Acts of kindness - to make everyone feel involved, held potentially in the 'Respectful communities' block not focusing too much on massive events, as there is not that much time for that last year many events did not happen 'Can of Worms' - was attempted last year, Matt C. would host it, but numbers were not large enough Promoting Organ Donation in individual halls - for local students only Connect students in the halls to the services on campus - eg. little posters about how to contact others, how to create a happier environment Biggest impact made through individual hall promotions by individual RA's Evening suppers would be a good way to incorporate promotion into individual halls Having specific suppers on international holidays with the holiday-specific food (eg Mooncake) 'Potluck Dinner' - each house brings a plate with food from another country and try the various food and hear a little about the cultures Diversity & Social Inclusion Week Diversity and Inclusion Week - Semester 2 disability for a day travel around the world in one night - different dishes and activities in each common room - each stairway could do a dish with themed games after 5.3 Selfie Competition Purpose: To alert residents to both the D&I committee and to the various identities and cultures of other residents Selfie is designed to celebrate either culture diversity or individual diversity It is not just for international residents Prizes - 1st = Ipad 2nd/3rd = vouchers For advertisement: Poster in each hall The poster will be designed by Lee Walker (Deakin) by the 19th of March 10 per residents each RA is in charge of publicizing on social media for their resident caption with photo will have a 25 word limit If multiple people are present in the winning picture, there will still be only one prize rewarded By entering, competitors give permission to use photos best 10 are posted on facebook - as a group of many photos in one picture submissions via email - to the central email address Committee decides which is the best Timeframe: The Selfie competition will begin in the current block the poster will be designed within two weeks, the poster must be complete before the 24th of march The competition begins on the 24th of march. It will run for two weeks until the 4th of April The winner will be chosen on the 10th of April Publicity: Each RA is in charge of publicity for their own residents poster will be designed and given to each Ra for their halls make one/two mock selfies for poster 6 Committee Logo Logo - the current logo was vetoed due to the fact that it seemed to focus on the cultural aspect of it, rather than the entire concept of diversity and inclusion Brainstorming on the logo The logo should represent MRS D& S inclusion as a whole The logo could change on relation to which block or theme we are currently focusing on depending on the date. simply "MRS Diversity & Social Inclusion" as a logo in itself Two sample logos will be designed by two committee 5.1 Looking at Meeting Specific Block members and posted on facebook for the final logo to be decided on by next week next block (14th April to 25th May) = sexual orientation and gender Queer officers have changed for this year - names on Res Start concept for the major event/promotion of semester 2 is still in development contact with ALLY - support the different sexual orientations to feel same and comfortable as being who you are, currently no training for students as emails are released public on Monash website 6 OTHER BUSINESS 6.3 Any Other Business Date of Next Meeting: 5pm 10th April @ Briggs Meeting Room.
