ROCKET NEWS! Week of January 18, 2016 “God loves us always, even with our mistakes and sins.” Pope Francis • Monday the 18th is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, our students have the opportunity to participate in the MLK Freedom Walk with Mr. Boeckman. He is distributing permission forms if your student is interested. • Congratulation to the Girls BB team on their honor of winning 4th place in last weekend’s Lindsay Tournament! Players Jordan Cowan and Molly Carlson earned a place on the All-Tournament Team. • Our Boys BB team is also to be congratulated on their honor of winning 1st Place in the Lindsay Tournament! The players Tony Elix and Shane Hoehner were recognized to the All-Tournament Team, and player, Stephon Hall, was honored as the tournament’s MVP! • The MSM Archery Team competed in the Holy Trinity Tournament this past weekend, and Erick Gutierrez and Leslie Torres, with high scores of 264 and 255 out of 300, led the charge. The team has now qualified for a seat at the State Tournament! • On Tuesday the 19th at 10:00 a.m., I am hosting a Principal’s Coffee for anyone interested in learning more about The Mount. I very much enjoy sitting together with potential families in a more personal environment and sharing with them the amazing opportunities The Mount has to offer. If you have questions, you may contact Diane Wilson at 631-8865, ext. 205. • At the request of the Archdiocese, Mount St. Mary is hosting a Town Hall meeting for the community on the topic of the Education Savings Account. The meeting is Tuesday, January 19th at 6:30pm. Representative Jason Nelson, the ESA bill sponsor, will explain how these types of savings accounts give parents control over their child’s share of education funding, allowing them to customize their child’s education regarding private school tuition, textbooks, concurrent enrollment, etc. Bishop McGuinness will also hold a town hall meeting, scheduled for Thursday, January 21, at 6:30pm. • Parents, just a reminder that in the event of bad weather and I feel it is necessary to cancel classes for the safety of our school family, you will be contacted by an automated telephone message with MY voice, and you will also see the school closing notice scroll on the major TV news stations (NBC, CBS, ABC). Please look for “Mount St. Mary High School.” The Catholic elementary school in Guthrie is “St. Mary’s.” • A message from our cafeteria…if your student orders a salad for lunch, he/she is still responsible for paying for their “special request” for a salad in the event they change their mind and do not want the salad as they go through the lunch line. • Attached is a picture of the Basketball Homecoming t-shirts that are for sale by Student Council. It would be fun if you ordered one! For additional information, contact Mr. David Roberts at 631-8865, ext. 302. • MSM Basketball Homecoming T-Shirt Design Order 2016.pdf ROCKET ACTIVITIES PLANNED Week of January 18 PDMonday, January 18 (A day): 8:25am First bell rings 9:00am Students leave for Freedom Walk 6:00pm 9th grade BB vs. OCS (A) Tuesday, January 19 (B day): 7:25am NHS Meeting – All Members 10:00am Principal’s Coffee – Mercy Meeting Room 4:00pm ROCKET BB vs. Casady (A) 6:30pm Town Hall Meeting – Auditorium Wednesday, January 20 (A day): 1:00pm Talent Show Auditions Thursday, January 21 (B day): 1:00pm OSU Representative on campus ROCKET BB @Purcell Tournament • 10:30 Girls vs. Byng • 2:30 Boys vs. Tuttle Friday, January 22 (A day): ROCKET Swim Team @ Jenks Swim Meet 1:00pm Poetry Out Loud Finals – Auditorium ROCKET BB @Purcell Tournament Saturday, January 23: ROCKET BB @Purcell Tournament ROCKET Swim Team @Jenks Swim Meet 8:00am SAT @MSM
