SUMMARY
This position may be based in the Ahtna Environmental Inc. (AEI) office in Pleasant Hill CA, Monterey, CA or our San Antonio TX
office. Home base location is flexible. Supports the Senior Project Manager(s) in conducting gathering, evaluating, transferring and
reviewing federal environmental data from military installations nationwide. The Environmental Scientist will utilize their knowledge

of the CERCLA and RCRA processes to assist and train facility personnel in the collecting, synthesizing and documentation of data
from investigated areas and assisting in the preparation of Basewide environmental data bases. The job involves extensive travel to
multiple locations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES – Including, but not limited to:







Conduct and oversee in accordance with state and federal regulatory guidelines and as directed by project management
staff Data Gathering, Data Entry Assistance, and IAP Support for the Army Cleanup Programs nationwide
Prepare technical evaluations of environmental data using data base guidelines.
Adhere to schedule and financial objectives as specified by project management
Control time and expenditures to achieve project goals.
Identify and evaluate corrective actions for individual or groups of sites.
Update job knowledge by reading historical documentation, publications; and other information specifically related to
applicable disciplines.
Enhance company and organization reputation by accepting ownership for the team performance and adding value to
assigned tasks.
Supervise facility environmental staff in data collection, and evaluation and review of data collected in support of
environmental restoration objectives.
Provide guidance, support, coordination, and oversight to written project documentation.
Prepare charts or graphs from data samples, providing summary information on the environmental relevance of the data.
Determine data collection methods to be employed in site surveys and investigations.
Meeting safety responsibilities and goals.
Achieving quality requirements.
Understanding best management practices as they relate to environmental investigations.
Implementing process improvement, and tracking and reporting on changes to scope and schedule.

Must be able to work in a high paced, demanding work environment with deadline driven schedules with the ability to
organize work priorities.
Must be able to have clear and concise written and verbal communication skills.
Must have the ability to understand construction specification requirements.
Must be able prepare accurate and complete submittals, work plans, documentation, regulatory forms, and
correspondence.









Enthusiastic and motivated, sincerely enjoy contract/administrative work and maintaining excellent customer/client
relationships.
Must possess exceptional organizational skills to enhance timeliness and efficiency as well as knowledge of filing and
updating records.
Capable of working independently as well as with varying levels of personnel and work disciplines to accomplish a team
atmosphere.
Bachelors’ degree in physical or environmental science
Two (2) to Seven (7) years or more of experience conducting environmental investigations.
A broad understanding of federal and state environmental regulations with experience at RCRA/CERCLA sites.
Current appropriate training to include at a minimum:
Up to date 40 Hour HAZWOPER
Valid Driver’s License.
PREFERRED:

Army Environmental data Base Experience
Knowledge of laws, legal codes, government regulations, executive orders, and agency rules governing environmental
restoration projects and programs.
Knowledge of the practical application of database management.
Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to
problems.
Identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
Combine various sources of information to form general rules or conclusions (includes finding a relationship among
seemingly unrelated events).
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described in this job description are representative of those an employee encounters while
performing the essential duties and responsibilities of this job. Generally indoors, while outdoors may be subject to site conditions,
changes in temperature, weather conditions and noise levels.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Frequent sitting for prolonged periods of time, using hands/fingers requiring dexterity and coordination to handle files and single pieces
of paper, reaching with hands and arms for items above and below desk level, talking, hearing, and seeing (up close, at a distance,
along the periphery, with depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus); walking from place to place within the office with occasional
use of stairs and no elevator available; bending, pushing, pulling, and standing for up to 2 hours; occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds
such as small office equipment, files, stacks of paper, reference and other materials.
Work is performed in an office setting with ability to speak and receive phone communications often. Work requires computer usage
with strength, dexterity, coordination and visual acuity to use keyboard and video display terminal and other office equipment.
Moderate travel required to shareholder communities, subsidiary offices and other locations as needed.
