Despite this known fact, more effort and funds have been spent developing and implementing treatments for cancers rather than on research and development of cancer prevention modalities and strategies. Our seminar seek to provide an avenue for bringing the academic researchers and the community providers who are all interested in cancer prevention together as first step in bridging the knowledge gap and to provide a means of disseminating research findings for practice application. Educational Objectives 1. Identify major factors (lifestyle behaviors, nutrition, infections, sleep deprivation, physical inactivity) that contribute to cancer risk 2. Apply recent research and updates in cancer risk, early detection, and prevention to clinical practice 3. Discuss the role of infections in cancer risk and the use of vaccines in cancer prevention 4. Develop assessment and clinical management skills in a smoking cessation workshop 5. Describe the various modalities for skin cancer prevention and early detection Target Audience Physicians Physician Assistants Advanced Practice Nurses Registered Nurses Educational Methods • Lectures • Case Presentation Including Interactive Audience Participation • Question and Answer Sessions • Workshop Evaluation A course evaluation form will provide participants with the opportunity to comment on the value of the program content to their practice decisions, performance improvement activities, or possible impact on patient health status.
