GENERAL INFORMATION
The Society of Women Engineers welcomes nominations for Professional Development Award. Within this packet you will find
details on the Professional Development Program Award.
All submissions are to be submitted ELECTRONICALLY to https://app.smarterselect.com/programs/23218-Society-Of-WomenEngineers. Please note that for each award your section applies, a separate application must be submitted.
The nomination deadline is July 1, 2015 at 11:59 PM CDT. Awards will be presented at WE15 in Nashville, TN.
To be considered, your package must be in submitted status. Incomplete packages or those that exceed the requirements will be
removed from consideration.
All award submissions are subject to be included as “Best Practices” in the future. The goal of the “Best Practices” is to create an
avenue for sharing ideas amongst SWE members and strengthening member efforts to meet the goals and objectives of the Society.
Specific questions concerning eligibility and requirements about the Communication Awards can be directed to the awards committee
at awards-chair@swe.org.
All other questions can be submitted to awards@swe.org.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AWARD
This award recognizes Sections (Professional and Collegiate), MALs and International Affiliates that have developed the best
professional development program or event. A program can be a one-day seminar with a variety of workshops or a series comprised
of at least two events that have a common theme; an event can be a single professional development or meeting or workshop. The
events can be held on different days. This program must support the professional development goals of the Society. Only one
package can be submitted for this award. Continuation of a program held over multiple years can be considered for this award.
Repeat of a program held in prior years can be considered as well; however, please indicate any innovations done for the current
program from the prior year.
Recognition
Awards will be given to Sections (Professional and Collegiate), MALs and International Affiliates.
Note: Cash grants based on funds available will be distributed at the discretion of the Board of Directors.
Submission Format
Please upload all submissions in Word Document or PDF File only to https://app.smarterselect.com/programs/23218-Society-OfWomen-Engineers with the subject line ProfessionalDev_ SubmittingOrganization. Receipt will be confirmed via email.
In 1000 words or less please highlight your section’s professional development program or event.
Content for the Report should cover the Report Content of the award. The Report will be judged based on the requirements listed
below.
Format for the Report must be as follows:
 Create Report in a Word Document or PDF File ONLY
 1.5 Line Spacing
 12-Point Times Roman New Font
 1-inch margins on all sides (top, bottom, left, right)
 Titles of each new section should be bolded, underlined and centered
 Do not include graphics, photos, program booklets, brochures, etc, within your report
 Save File as ‘ProfessionalDev_ SubmittingOrganization’
 Incomplete packages or those that exceed or do not follow the requirements will be removed from consideration.
Report Content
The Report is limited to 1000 words and the following sections. Titles of each new section should be bolded, underlined and centered;
please title accordingly:



Program Description
Title Page:

Include Title (Professional Development Award), submitting organization (i.e. Section Name, MAL or International
Affiliate), size, and name, address, and phone number of person filing report.
Program/Event Description:





Describe the professional development program/event and the purpose it was held.
Include if this program/event was new to your section or an expanded event from a previous year.
Include details on how well the program met mission and strategic goals of the Society, as well as the professional
development goals of the submitting organization.
Include any tangible measurements from the program/event (surveys, etc.) that show its effectiveness.
Also include the percentage of membership involved in planning the event and the percentage of membership participation.

25% Attainment of Society and Submitting Organization Goals
15% Effectiveness
15% Participation (Planning and Attendance)
10% Innovative/Expansion of Program
Additional Information
Any relevant publications/documents about your PD program/event can be attached as an appendix. Examples include media
coverage, surveys, flyers, speaker bios, etc.
