Advertisements for staff Recruitment – Haico Aquaculture Operations HaiCo’s Aquaculture Division is recruiting for its scallop farming operations in Haida Gwaii. Between various sites in the Cumshewa Inlet these off shore sites will be used to produce of high quality scallops from hatchery seed. We are currently recruiting staff to fill various positions for the farm site production. We are currently recruiting for: Production Supervisors - 2 positions available Reporting to the Farm Site Manager the Production Supervisors will be in charge of production teams and procedures on the farm sites. As a Production Supervisor you will be provided training in scallop husbandry throughout the production cycle for the project, these positions represent an dynamic opportunity to learn the full depth of the industry. The Production Supervisors will be responsible for rigorous supervision of team members and attention to detail. Your obligation will include managing to high standards of scallop husbandry, implementation of technical and health and safety procedures, and processes from seed transfer to the sites through to harvest and transport to market. The working hours of these positions will be varied depending on production requirements and supervisors will be expected to work outside normal working hours and on weekends at times. AquaCo is looking for dynamic and flexible team members to fill these positions. The ideal candidates for these positions will have: Some previous experience in shellfish aquaculture/fisheries Technical or higher educational training in aquaculture or a related field Previous experience in supervisory roles Good working knowledge of seamanship and marine safety (Certification preferable) Extremely positive attitude to work, dedication and genuine interest in learning shellfish aquaculture All previous work experience will be considered in conjunction with any qualifications or certification, and the last point on the list is by far the most important. Re-numeration: $20-$25/Hour dependent on skills and experience. The candidates with strong proficiency will have the ability to engage in internal training and work towards an assistant manager’s position. Small Vessel Operator and Technical Farm Workers - 4 positions available The movement of scallop stock for all husbandry such as stocking, grading/sorting and harvesting will be undertaken using a team of professional, motivated technicians and vessel operators. These positions involve the safe and efficient movement of personnel and stock using a variety of water based equipment such as inboard/outboard powered vessels, winches and hiabs vehicles and other powered marine equipment. Technicians /operators will be enthusiastic and flexible individuals who are at home on the water working in all conditions. They will be team players with efficient work habits who put thought into their duties to ensure work is kept on schedule effectively. Successful candidates for these positions will be required to ensure all vessels and large marine machinery involved in farming operations is maintained properly through careful and correct usage and regular maintenance schedules. The working hours of these positions will be varied depending on production requirements and Technicians will be expected to work outside normal working hours and on weekends at times. The ideal candidates for these positions will have: Several years’ experience working in the marine environment in aquaculture, fisheries or related industries Good working knowledge of seamanship and marine safety (Certification preferable) Previous experience operating heavy machinery in the marine environment, proven safety record Previous experience in foreman / supervisory roles Strong, positive mental attitude to work, target driven and determined to succeed All previous work experience will be considered in conjunction with any qualifications, and the last point on the list is by far the most important. Shellfish Farm Workers-14 Positions available AquaCo is recruiting a dynamic team of farm workers to undertake daily farm duties including; Stock sampling and growth tracking, stocking of farm gear, grading and sorting of scallops, harvesting of market scallops and packing for transportation, cleaning and maintenance of all farm gear and equipment, monitoring of marine farm conditions (physical and environmental). Working with the Farm Site Manager and Production Supervisors, the farm workers will undertake varied tasks and schedules through the production cycle. Training will be given in the technical aspects of shellfish aquaculture and these positions represent an excellent opportunity to enter a new and growing industry with good prospects of ongoing development. These positions involve working on the water and in all weather conditions and on varied schedules and hours regimes depending on work load. Successful applicants will be flexible, hard-working, team players with a strong work ethic.
