Would a display bursary enable you to take your work to the next level?
Studio Shots is a dynamic new strand of programming at firstsite which invites applications from ENAS member artists. This is a testbed opportunity, designed to enable artists to professionally develop through displays of recent or ongoing work which is at an experimental stage. Four artists will be selected for this opportunity, one per two-month slot between March and December 2015. The space is an area of high footfall, in the lounge area adjacent to the main galleries and café, which will provide opportunities to attract new and varied audiences.
Each slot will consist of a two-month display period and an opening event/ Salon discussion on the work or ideas raised by the work. This is an opportunity for the selected artists to generate dialogue around their work with an audience of peers. Selected artists will work with firstsite and ENAS staff to select, market, interpret and install work. A bursary will be awarded to selected artists which aims to further the work selected and may be used to contribute to, for example, framing or other mechanisms by which work can be made display-ready (including equipment and transport).
Studio Shots is designed to complement the development of emerging artists that firstsite supports through its exhibition programme, the annual Collectors’ Group Bursary Awards and fostering of initiatives such as ENAS, Slack Space and Essex Summer of Art.
Bursary: £400 per artist.
Deadline: Friday 20 February 2015
Artists will be shortlisted and informed of the selection in the following week. Selection will be made on strength of application only.
