COMMUNITY LEARNING IN PARTNERSHIP (CLIP) JOB SPECIFICATION BASIC SKILLS COORDINATOR/ENGLISH SPECIALIST (FULL-TIME) Community Learning in Partnership (CLIP) CIC CLIP is a social enterprise which seeks to widen participation in learning and progression by people in rural, coastal and peripheral communities. We do this by developing programmes that focus on: 16-18s AND adults (50-50 commitment) Making a contribution to local communities and partnership working Being entrepreneurial - securing the widest variety of social, physical and financial resources to maximise the quality and range of provision that we can offer to local communities. Currently our provision includes: Foundation Study Programmes for 16-18 year olds English and mathematics for adults (ASB/accredited courses) Vocational courses for adults (accredited) Access to Higher Education Diplomas Adult Community Learning (non-accredited) Family Learning in schools Mental health promotion programmes (Learning Minds) Award in Education and Training (AET). CLIP runs community learning centres in Gainsborough, Market Rasen and Mablethorpe. Purpose of the post The purpose of the role is to lead the successful delivery of all GCSE English and other English programmes (Entry to Level 2), as well as to coordinate all Basic Skills delivery in English and maths across the organisation. 1 Job description 1. Lead on the delivery of Basic English and Maths (BEM) courses on 16-18 and Adult Programmes across the organisation, including: a. Taking a planned, proactive and creative approach to the marketing of BEM to meet local need and so that recruitment targets are achieved b. Ensure that adults receive appropriate IAG and initial assessment so that they are signposted onto the right courses c. Lead on IA in BEM, whether this involves paper-based or online methods d. Advise on curriculum and courses to meet needs, within the constraints of funding e. Take responsibility e-learning practices in BEM in consultation with relevant staff f. Lead on Learning Support provision especially as this relates to English and Maths g. Support Reception Staff (and other staff as required) so that they are wellinformed about the demands and content of these courses, and the differences between them h. Support the Chief Executive (CE) in improving our BEM attendance, completion and success rates (in line with the English and Maths Policy Statement) i. Be the lead link with OCR for the accreditation of Functional Skills j. Help improve access to high quality resources and share good practice across the organisation k. Establish a basic BEM Resource Base at each centre l. Support staff in the delivery of BEM to a high quality standard m. Lead on the tracking of progress and achievement in BEM on 16-18 and Adult Programmes, including records of entries and success outcomes in these subjects n. Support the CE in the recruitment and support of BEM sessional staff, as required o. Provide regular on-going support to BEM sessional staff in all centres p. Liaise with the GCSE Coordinator/Maths specialist so that GCSE, Basic Skills, English and Maths are “joined up”; 2 2. Lead on the delivery of English courses on 16-18 and Adult Programmes across the organisation, including: a. Advising on the curriculum for GCSE English b. Leading and teaching on GCSE English programmes c. Supporting and developing all English tutors, as required, on 16-18 and adult programmes d. Interviewing and recruiting English tutors in consultation with the Chief Executive and GCSE Coordinator e. Sourcing, advising and organising high quality English resources for teaching including paper-based and electronic; 3. Teach on CLIP courses according to own specialisms, and as agreed with the Chief Executive, based on 18 hours per week. Initially, this is likely to include: a. GCSE English b. Functional English c. Functional Maths; 4. Take responsibility for internal moderation of agreed accredited courses (primarily GCSE English and BEM programmes); 5. Evaluate and develop own practice; 6. Attend staff meetings and be willing to undertake training and development activities that would support the development of the role; 7. Adhere fully to CLIP’s Quality, Equal and Diversity and Health and Safety Policies. Location The post-holder will be based at the Market Rasen Learning Centre with regular travel around the surrounding area. Some attendance at other sites will also be necessary (especially Gainsborough).
