COURSE STRUCTURE - ASSOCIATE OF SCIENCE IN BUSINESS STUDIES
The Associate in Science in Business Studies is offered as a 2+2 programme. Successful
completion of 2 years leads to the award of the Associate degree at which time candidates may
opt to go on to complete the 4 year Bachelor degree within another 2 years. Students may take
up to 5 years to complete the Associate degree.
The Associate in Science in Business Studies comprises general education and specialised
courses as well as a single elective (outside of the specialisation and at Associate degree level),
internship/work experience (240 hours) and community service (30 hours).
Persons with substantial relevant work experience may apply for reduction/exemption of the
internship. Students who work, but not in the relevant area of study, can have the number of
hours reduced to 180. A work experience portfolio may be required to substantiate the exemption
request.
A total of 75 credits are required for successful completion of the Associate in Science in
Business Studies. The specialisation consists of 18 credits which along with the elective are
completed in year 2 of the degree. Internships may be spread out over both years or concentrated
in the final year.
A total of 4 or 6 semesters is required to complete the programme in Full Time or Part Time
mode respectively. In Part Time mode, utilisation of summers allows completion within 2
academic years.
