MENTORS change lives. Mentors form the backbone of the support system offered by the Evanston Scholars program. Mentors are community members with the desire to help an academically ambitious youth find success in college. Evanston Scholars works very hard to match mentors and scholars to help ensure good outcomes. Are you the right match for one of our students? You just might be! About Mentoring: What is expected from the mentors? ~Commitment to helping one Scholar with the college application process and transitioning to college ~Communication with Scholar through phone calls, emails and text messages to follow up on workshop activities and establish rapport ~Attendance at orientation and regular contact with Evanston Scholars Staff ~Check-ins with Scholars during four years of college to get updates, help problem solve, and offer encouragement How much time will mentoring involve? Our goal is good communication so we ask mentors to have some quality contact with Scholars at least twice a month. Contacts may include outings, phone calls, emails or texts. Evanston Scholars also provides some organized activities to help facilitate this process.
