He has conducted qualitative and quantitative research and analysis and has developed several financial and decision analysis models. Rajiv has a strong interest in finance and strategy in the water sector and is currently leading the review of the challenges and constraints associated with urban sanitation in South Africa. His dissertation was focussed on the conditions required to attract impact investors to invest in South Africa’s water infrastructure upgrade and expansion program. Rajiv understanding of the local government environment is strengthened by the experience gained during his prior employment at eThekwini Water and Sanitation. This project also included a review of the norms and standards in respect of tariffs (In progress). 2015/16, Review of urban sanitation in South Africa, Water Research Commission Currently undertaking a review of urban sanitation in South Africa for the Water Research Commission. This study aims to highlight the challenges and constraints related to the provision of sanitation in urban areas (In progress). 2015/16, Development of a sanitation game changer, Water Research Commission Currently undertaking research and conducting analysis of various data sets in order to develop a sanitation game changer for the Western Cape Government. This required the development of an Excel model in order to determine an ambitious but realistic sanitation delivery target for the Western Cape (In progress). 2014/15, Municipal Benchmarking Initiative, Water Research Commission and SALGA Benchmarked performance of the eight metropolitan municipalities and facilitated the Cities Working Group as part of the broader Municipal Benchmarking initiative. 2014, Review of monitoring and evaluation in the water sector, DPME Conducted primary and desktop research with Department of Water and Sanitation officials in order establish the state and use of monitoring and evaluation in the water sector and provide recommendations for improvement. 2014, Feasibility study for the regional integration of bulk water supply systems, AECOM Conducted research and provided support to the project leader to determine the advantages and disadvantages of the potential bulk water institutional and financial options available to the Knysna and Bitou municipalities that are considering the development of regional bulk water scheme. 2014 – Present, Study reference groups, Water Research Commission Served on a number of reference groups for studies that have been commissioned by the Water Research Commission (Ongoing).
